Huh...my name's not on the HM list. Just e-mailed Joni about it.

Turns out I didn't e-mail her back after receiving the results e-mail from her, and she assumes people she doesn't hear back from don't want to be listed on the blog. That's all fixed now. Smile
So heads up, all: do be sure to respond to Joni's e-mails, even if (like me) you figure she's far too busy to need that kind of mailbox input.

OK, Congratulations Steve - but were are going to have to change your name. This as far too confusing for me. I keep thinking Ive won, and then I realise all the congratulations are for doppelganger Steve.

hmmm.

regards

Steve 😉

Steve 2 is cool or Northern Hemisphere Steve vs. Southern Hemisphere Steve.

Steve the deuce

:palmface::

We could do it Futurama style with one called Steve1 and the other SteveA.

My absolute, heartfelt congratulations to Tina (my psychic twin!), Marina, and Steve! Words cannot express how happy I am for you. And Tina, I'm doubly happy because now you get to give that speech!

And a huuuuuuuuuge thank you to Joni for shepherding us through this most difficult quarter. And to Dave for stepping up to the challenge under difficult circumstances.

As for myself and all you kind people who want to express condolences, I mean this from the bottom of my heart... My Mom survived cancer surgery two weeks ago and my brother survived 4 cardiac arrests, all within the span of 3 days. Don't feel sorry for me, 'cuz I already won in the ways that matter most to me.

But if you really do want to express condolences to me, here's what I would ask, if Brad can forgive a little threadjacking for a good cause: donate to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life that I'm walking in later this month. Do it for my sister, diagnosed with breast cancer last year. Do it for my Mom, diagnosed with colon cancer two months ago. Do it for my sister-in-law, a five year survivor. Do it for that person in your life who matters to you, and who was struck by this miserable disease.

Do it in memory of K.D.

It doesn't have to be a lot. Every little bit helps. But here's a little something extra: for every $10 or better donation, I'll get a luminaria. You can dedicate it to K.D., or to someone important in your life. You just let me know who. I'll get them decorated with rockets and dragons and wild horses and all sorts of things in the spirit of K.D. and this community that she gave so much to. And after the relay, I'll post pictures of your tribute here.

This cause matters to me a lot. That's why I added it to my signature a few months back. That's why I'm highjacking The Thread That Never Ends. I hope you'll understand. And I hope you can spare a donation.

UPDATE: The link was broken. I fixed it. And you folks are awesome!

UPDATE 2: If you order a luminaria and you want a particular picture on it, you can send me an image file when I send my thank you email. I'll print them up and glue them on the bags.

Martin,

As soon as you fix your link, I'll throw a Ulysses S. Grant your way.

Cancer's not big in my family, thank goodness, so put KD's name down for me.

Dustin,

Thanks! The link was working last night when I composed this. Must've pasted it wrong. I'll fix it tonight. Meanwhile, if you follow the link in my dog, you'll get to a page of my blathering. There should be a working donation link in there.

Thanks!

I looked all over your dog and couldn't find the link. I did find some stink, does that count?

Kidding.

Down for $50. Rockets and dragons and horses, oh my!
Looking forward to the pics.

It's a definite sign of the times that when I see Internet misspellings these days, I first assume "posting from his phone."

I assumed it was just an amusing case of fingers-in-the-wrong-place-itis, as "d" is to the right of "s" and "o" to the right of "i."

I assumed posting while inebriated.

I would dearly love to donate, however surgery and funeral have wiped my funds. When is the run?

Amanda, I completely understand. We in the writing business aren't known for a lot of spare funds. That's why I'm casting a wide net (and other nets as well) to catch what I can, where I can.

The Relay is 24 hours, from the 28th to the 29th. My goal is to walk at least 6 of those hours. 8 if I can make it.

Ah, I get paid between now and then. Excellent.

I can neither confirm nor deny that any shovels were harmed.

You can count me in as well, Martin.

I just donated for a friend of mine (High School best friend who got cancer and survived when we were kids). She did the relay in Portland. And I'm down for more donating. You can put in any name you like on the donation. I have dozens of cancer survivors and victims in my family and close friends and it would be hard to choose one. That's how wide spread this disease is. I bet we all know over a dozen people who have been affected in some way.

So as soon as I can I'll send you the donation.

I sent a donation your way as well, Martin. Cancer took my grandmother before my parents even met, so I never knew her, and it has touched other people who are important to me, as it has for most of us, I expect.

My uncle was given a death sentence from non-Hodgkins lymphoma when I was 16. Thanks to cancer research and some experimental treatments, he's still with us, so I will definitely be donating.

I also just completed a donation. One of my friends was diagnosed with brain cancer 11 years ago, and told she had less than a year to live. But thanks to the doctors, some new clinical trials, and her own determination not to give in, she's still here today. Hers is the second patient story on the following link.
