This is sort of like doing /played in World of Warcraft--it's best to not know that sort of thing. No one wants to see they've spent a year of real time (or more I'm sure in many cases) playing that game. Of course, it doesn't take that long to post on the forums, so it's not quite as bad.

We're still posting in Q1? Sweet! I consider this place my sanctuary on the board. So many good memories here and also hands down where I've posted the most in the last two years.

I'm waiting on the pictures from Martin too. I see he's hard at work in a stick figure gin rummy game or perhaps it's pinochle...so hard to tell when the cards are not drawn in...*sigh* How will I know who's winning?

It's canasta. A very long, distracting game.

I spent the day at home. Tried to upload pictures, kept timing out. Maybe I'll drive to someplace with better service today.

Not quite as bad, until I check my posting rate: 5.08 posts per day. And as you've no doubt noticed, I can be a bit... verbose. I suspect that if I added up my nearly 2,500 posts, I'd have a word count equal to a couple of decent novels.

OK, I finally go a high speed connection and was able to upload my Relay for Life photos! Last year, our team goal was $2,000, and we raised around $4,100. This year, our goal was $3,000, and we raised around $5,100. Since the Relay as a whole made less money and had fewer people this year (we're still not sure why, but we think there were a lot more Relays in nearby cities this year), it's even more impressive that we did so well. We beat our total by over a thousand dollars; and you folks in the forum contributed $562.38 toward that goal. So my sister asked me to extend you all her most sincere thanks. You all made a great tribute to K.D., and you helped fight this disease and support its victims. As proud as we all may be of our writing, this was something to be pretty proud of, too.

And so here are the pictures. My apologies for the poor photography skills. It's hard to take photos of paper sacks down at ground level, especially with a cell phone. And besides, as a photographer, I make a pretty good writer!

Stewart dedicated a luminaria to his mother-in-law, Angelica Lau Smith.

I dedicated this to my sister and team co-captain, Anita Buckowing (her other captain was Amy Fowler)...

...and Dawn also made a generous donation in honor of Anita. (I think she just wanted to make Evil Martin cry. Did she succeed? I'm not sayin'...)

This one was in honor of my sister-in-law, Clare Shoemaker. Another one in honor of my other sister-in-law, Laura Shoemaker, caught fire before I could get a picture. Candles in paper bags… It’s a wonder that only two burned up all night!

Jennifer a.k.a. Greenroom dedicated one to K.D.

As did Tina.

And Steve.

And Austin.

And Alistair.

And Jeanette.

And Kary.

Helen asked for a joint memorial: K.D. and E.J.

Amanda asked for another joint memorial for K.D. and for Joseph Zilvinskis.

Melanie asked for a dedication to K.D., and asked for one of my stick figures for the picture. Since K.D. loved wild horses, I thought this one was appropriate.

Dustin asked for this picture in K.D.’s memory.

Marina asked for this in memory of her mentor, Kathleen Brown.

I dedicated this in support of my mom, diagnosed with colon cancer back in May. It’s a casting of Rodin’s Kiss from the Frederick Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park (my favorite place for writing inspiration). She had a small scale reproduction of this a long time ago.

I dedicated this to my friend, former coworker, and fellow author Steve Poling. Anyone with an interest in the Sherlock Holmes canon should check out . (I'm currently reading his latest book, Finding Time.)

Rebecca dedicated this to the memory of her grandmother, Vera Bjork.

And then I have a few random photos from the event. This is a photo of our booth:

The guy in yellow is my brother-in-law, Mark Buckowing (but everybody calls him “Buck”). Also one of my best friends for – yeesh, 34 years now! Buck reads more books than any three other people I know (unless those three are his wife and kids). I’m posting here largely because of him: when he read the opening chapter of my novel in progress, he said, “I think you should wrap that up and send it out as a short story.” So I did, and the rest is history. Oh, and that chapter? It got me to the ISDC, where I had lunch with Buzz Aldrin. So if you ever wondered who to blame for me posting endlessly here, start with Buck.

Anita made and sold these clay unicorns, part of her Kritters Against Cancer series.

And also these dinosaurs.

And here you can see more unicorns and dinosaurs.

It was a great day. We celebrated. We raised a lot of money. We fought back. And we did it with a lot of help from you. Thank you!

Thanks for that Martin! I would like to point out, Joe is still alive and kicking. 11 years in remission thanks to cancer research and experimental treatment for a disease the doctors said would kill him.

Ah! Excellent news! I tried to get the In Memories and In Supports right, but I was sure I missed one here or there.

I was so lost at this post, now it all makes perfect sense. I've done the comment on a post and then go back and see it wasn't what I thought it was....then have to change my post and then wonder "Did they edit?" "Am I losing my mind?"

Nope, no one is losing their mind. (Well, except me perhaps, but that's normal. wotf001 )

When I logged on this morning there was a spammy marketing post from a dentist here, flogging dentistry. Well, as you can imagine I've never been able to find a dentist it's safe to send the Gator to. But this one I figured no one would mind if she booked herself an appointment and there was a slight accident when he told her to open wide... wotf013

I choose to believe that Brad's mad skills weren't even needed because Gator was here in time. She opened so wide she ate the post above her. wotf006
