Thanks guys! I'm sitting here at the hotel with Marina. We ended up as roommates. I was super disappointed she didn't' really have purple hair.

I've decided Tina is like that drawer everyone has in their kitchen--the one that gets all the random stuff thrown in it. It's like a bunch of people have thrown things into the Drawer of Tina, and now I've come along and opened it to find all this interesting stuff inside.

It's not the food. It's watching Tim Power's suck back all those Cokes...I'm getting a contact caffeine high from the guy.

I told Tina it was going to sound weird, but it's so true! She is a collector. A collector of what? Random interesting stuff.

And, let's see, so far we've been instructed to take up smoking and blood drinking for the sake of our work, so... Just kidding, kind of.

I've also learned some interesting things about Marina. She is that person that gets random people to talk to her. She is more powerful than me. Also the photographers love her. So sitting next to her I think I'll be in more pictures than normal.

Tim Powers told us to drink blood if we write a vampire novel. ETA. Marina just corrected me. It is actually Dave who said that we all needed to drink some blood.

Also Tim Powers hates stories in present tense....but let me remind everyone that *I* won, so anything is possible.

And I just want to make it clear. I'm not a hoarder. Marina is talking metaphorically....I think *hides string and rubber band collection*

Yes, she's a metaphorical drawer (it would be really strange if she were an actual drawer).

So Tina is really the Tanist from Patrick O'Sullivan's Maddy Dune's first and last spelling bee?

Can anyone say who is who in the pics we have been receiving?

Who smokes a pipe for one?

Who talked to the person with the snake for a second?

Yes. Because it *totally* looks like me.

Steve from Humboldt got the pipe. Mine "item" was a room key with a Pizza Hut delivery number on the back. Also yes I did get accosted by a hand lotion sales man. I didn't want him to be my "random person" but it's a long story for when I get back. And Jordan totally toned down the full story for the blog. I'll just give you a teaser and say it was not a marriage proposal he was proposing....

I faked a text and left, btw.

These blogs have me completely terrified. Particularly this business of meeting allegedly random persons in the street. Just as well it's not me over there!

Being pernickety as usual, though, I should point out that there is no such thing as a 'random' person in the street. Statistical randomness requires the elimination of all factors not attributable to chance, whereas street meetings are heavily influenced by not at all random choices of time and place.

That being the case, in the event that I should ever be so lucky as to get to participate in this shindig, may I please place an advance booking for a one-legged Robert Newton impersonator dressed as Long John Silver. Then I can interview the parrot.

I guess he was offering you some suggested uses of his hand lotion? wotf019

I'm not too crazy about that part either. I think of it as CIA training--because of a certain movie--not writing. But I wouldn't like it anyway.

But last year someone spoke to a girl with wings.
