I once saw this poor sod get in a fight with a Klingon and a Gorn....I'm just now realizing that was probably you.

Paraphrasing this picture...
Duotrope and the results thread are like a fridge. You know there's nothing new inside but you check it out every ten minutes.
But checking Duotrope and the results thread one more time, I see no signs of any results tonight. I think the little troublemaker won't get me into any more trouble tonight. (Tomorrow is anybody's guess...)

Nice of Lair to post that he had not heard anything. I'm sure all of us clicked and visited, just to find out there was still nothing new. Keepin' us on the old toes.
Anyone familiar with spoons (the card/spoon game)? While playing it I usually spend most of my time planning (and carrying out) really elaborate fakes to get others to grab a spoon when no one actually has four-of-a-kind yet. I feel that it ensures that everyone is really paying attention (though I guess it means I'm not, at least not to the cards). If anyone out there has never heard of such a game, and is therefore entirely puzzled, I do apologize, but it is a game worth learning.
No idea where I was going with that.

I got the post-notification when Lair posted in the results thread a couple days ago, and I definitely jumped at it.
Then I secretly cursed him...
Cards, eh? Come to think of it, we might have enough Michiganders here for euchre.
I'll feather it, in no-trump.

I learned in my Finalist call (last year, don't get excited!) that Joni is from Michigan. Maybe if we tell her there's a game on, we can fool her into calling.

*sets up the card table in the basement*
*deals 6-handed euchre*
*baits a Joni-trap with Vernors, Win Schulers bar cheese and crackers, cocktail weenies in BBQ sauce, beer cheese dip in a bread round, some Kogel Viennas (hot dogs), and a jug of fresh cider from Farmer Bayne's*

Yeah, spoons is for card idiots like me (I've learned euchre six or seven times, but still don't know how to play). Only 2 or 3 simple rules--sort of like old maid combined with musical chairs, except you need 4 of the same card (instead of 2) and you use spoons instead of chairs, and instead of music you pass cards around the circle. In my family it gets pretty violent.
Martin, you may be onto something there. Maybe if we let her win she can pull some strings with KD? Who would get to be her partner? It was your idea, but Kary brought the game up to begin with.
Hmm...as a tie breaker, I could be Joni's partner, since I am so bad at the game that if I tried to lose my partner and I might accidentally win (yes, I am that bad).

SPOONS!! Man I love that game. I played it all growing up. That and a game called "Spit"
Little trade secret: I taught the kids I'd assessed both of these games to increase their processing speed on the IQ subtest if they scored really low. I could usually get their scores up by the end of the school year. Higher processing speed means better reading and math scores in achievement tests. Lots of teacher thought I was magic.
Parents started coming to me to "make their kid better in school" -- I had an underground, underaged, gambling casino. We traded lunch items and cafeteria tickets on hot dog day.
Ok I made that last bit up, but games do make us smarter.
Tina (who is a bit rummy from critiquing all evening on OWW after an old friend on there lured me back in.)

I've found that the secret to successful card playing is to be the token non-drinker in the group. The later the night gets, the better card player I become!
Martin, you may be onto something there. Maybe if we let her win she can pull some strings with KD?
Evil Martin's tricks aside, I continue to believe that for some reason they've decided to announce all the non-reject results at once this quarter. Or since that would be logistically complex, announce the Finalists and THEN start the long task of emailing the Semis and HMs.
Not to get anyone's hopes up or anything (that would be another Evil Martin trick); but if you haven't heard anything yet AND MY THEORY IS WORTH MORE THAN THE PIXELS IT'S PRINTED ON, that would be reason to hope.
But don't waste time hoping. WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! etc. NNiNN.

I've been tracking the Evil Martin like the Yeti. I have reason to believe he lurks just behind the Good Martin's heavy lids and slips out whenever the toothpicks fall from his eyes. Noble Martin tries to protect us from the Evil, but, being human, fails. Or so they say. I've yet to find his scat.

So you're saying Evil Martin is the reason I keep wanting to run a Cryptozoology role-playing campaign? My players have never been interested, but I can see adventure possibilities in sending them off in search of cryptids.

Wikipedia already lists a death date.
From KD's Facebook page:
To all who loved Kathy and her work... There will be a memorial service/wake/big damn party in her honor early next week. Arrangements are in flux right now as to the specifics, but I believe Tuesday is the target date. Please consider this an open invitation to share a personal story or memory about Kathy to be read aloud at the celebration of her life, and then recorded for Richard, her husband. Post them here, or message me with them and I'll get them collected. I would also like to ask that you consider posting photos and tagging them with Kathy's name.
