I lost my father just 3 days before K.D. I only just turnded to the Forum today for a little distraction. Guess that stategy didn't work. Unbelivable.

Oh Tom 🙁 I'm so sorry to hear about your dad.

Yeah, I thought about you, Tom. Too many shocks this week. Just too many. Again you have my sympathies.

I can't say "It gets better." I still miss my dad a lot. But it gets bearable with the help of family and friends.

Oh, I'm so sorry. Losing a loved one is alway hard, but a parent... Hope you're finding solace with friends and family.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Getting back on topic. I wonder if anything that isn't a rejection hadn't been fully sorted yet and if that is what is preventing the trickle of HM notices. wotf017

Yesterday was a particularly brutal day, both in terms of news and on Duotrope. Half of the entries on the page are from the 19th. I wonder how many more rounds before the end.

Of course, since the page shows last 30 days, that's skewed just a bit. If the page showed all results reported for Q1 (yeah, like Duotrope could tell Q1 from late-reported Q4 and misreported and...), there would be a little more balance.

Joe posted back on the 5th a letter from Joni that said it would take about a month to get all the results out. With the sad news this week, I doubt that has changed too much; but still, we can hope. With the wave of results yesterday, I wouldn't be completely surprised if we saw news before month's end.

It's true that it only shows 30 entries, but I believe the previous round was about 1/2 of this one. Of course this one had two weeks in between, so it probably means nothing. Months end is only 10 days away. I'd like to hope you are right. I'll just keep checking the forum every five minutes like always Smile

The tribute to KD in the WIotF Herald mentions that KD was judging right up until she entered the hospital only a few days ago. She was very committed.

Wow...most people wouldn't have bothered if they felt that bad, but I guess it shouldn't surprise me that KD kept going. She really did understand how much the contest means to everyone entering.

When I read that part...I was just floored and amazed. I'd figured she had deferred the job to someone else when she got sick. It's going to be hard to replace her.

Probably a mistake on the person who entered, but duotrope has a 19 day form rejection. Could they have started on Q2 w/o finishing Q1 and if so, what does it mean... what does it mean?

Perhaps more than one person is pitching in. One for Q1 and another for Q2?

I'm pretty sure it's a mistake on the part of whoever entered the response, as a 19 day rejection would have to be for Q3.

Subbed Q 1.
Entered on Duotrope.

Waited

Subbed Q2 on the last day of March
Entered on Duotrope.

Waited.

Received Q1 rejection from WoTF on the 19th April

Entered R on Duotrope - either mistakenly on Q2 sub, or believed R was for Q2.

It's a theory, and it fits the timeline.

Wow. What a rough week. It's very sad to hear about K.D.'s passing.

In an effort to focus on more positive news, I wanted to send out a little update (and query) on who's left in the contest.

Here's my list so far. I've added two folks who weren't on the original list, and I removed 9 folks (2/3 of whom have never won an HM or higher before), based on comments on this forum. It seems the vets are vets for a reason.

Here's my unofficial list of the 22 survivors:

Tina (gower21)
Corbin (1xF, 2xSF, 7xHM)
Francis Bruno (1xSF)
Amanda McCarter (1xSF, 1xSHM, 5xHM)
Martin Shoemaker (1xF, 1xSF, 2xHM)
Izanobu (1xSF, 2xSHM, 6xHM)
Grayson (3xHM)
Marina (2xF, 2xHM)
Kary
Dustin (1xF, 2xHM)
Jennifer Hicks (1xSF, 1xSHM, 6xHM)
anarresti
permanentnovice
joshpotter
hazlett
The Happy Snappy Gator (1xSF, 2xHM)
Isto
Preston (2xHM)
gwasch
AlistairKimble (1xF, 1xHM)
Delli
Ember

Did I miss anyone?

Also, assuming that Duotrope participants represent 10% of contest participants, that there are 1,000 entrants in the contest this quarter, and that there are a total of 85-86 rejections thus far on Duotrope (86 assumes the 19-day rejection counts in the overall figure), survivors have between a 67 - 71% chance of NOT being rejected at this point and a 2-2.1% chance of winning the contest (i.e., being in the top 3) vs. a 0.3% chance at the beginning of any given quarter.

So it looks like there is either one more round of rejections on the way, or the rejections are mostly complete (assuming fewer than 1,000 contest entrants).

Same goes for me. I was wondering when we'd see the next Hazlett analysis.

It's fun seeing the numbers presented so positively.

The thing about Multiple Online Personality Disorder is the emphasis on Multiple. You've only met Evil Martin; and you've seen The UML Guy's picture, though you probably didn't realize it. I think we had a brief appearance by Uncle Martin (the professional bad influence). But you have yet to meet Operative M (an alien spy reporting on Earth's geek culture), Martin Skvrsky (irrascible spaceport barkeeper), or any of the lesser personae.

Cloning personae is much less work than cloning persons!
