Right, if this is the week, some of us should become quiet ... but not me, so of the 23 I'm obviously not-yet-blessed, but then I couldn't say, could I?
I know from my story that I'm not, because I'm aware of the judges preferences... it wouldn't go there ... but on another post ... the warming obituary from KD's husband, he said that KD would receive a box of 1200 stories each quarter ... IT MIUST be 10%, not the 15%, or if 15% was 1200 then I have problem with math, and this reconfirms what a winner once told me ... HM's are withing the top 10%.
But what it means is that there HAS to be more rejections. Buckle up. Put your parachutes on. Check them before we bail from this craft ...
Any day... any day ...
Off to continue my Q3 story ...

I second that. If there are 1,200 entrants, there will most certainly be another wave of rejections.

There is no pattern. But if there's anything close to a pattern recently, it's that we hear results on Thursday. So I'll buy that. But I can't help hoping we hear even more than that.

I'll take it.
Now to send the story off to the other markets.
Congratulations Amanda and Michael!
UPDATE: And Josh and Alistair and Joe!
Looks like the Weekly Wave has begun; and the HM ratio around here is pretty high. Evil Martin is rattling his door lock and wanting to make comments that might feed the Rejectomancy and Duotropery; but I'm keeping him safely locked away.

OMG!! I'm SO happy for all of you HM people! I know some of you were hoping for more, and so I sympathize as well.
My fingers are crossed for everyone else! (And yeah, that 'acceptance'... ain't.)

Yeah, I find that hard to believe at this point that they'd know they were a top 3 finalist. Anyway, it's even better when they have the "brag box" feature turned on. Eh, if that's what they need to feel better about their writing, oh well. Unfortunately it skews the acceptance rate slightly when they do that.

It was in the e-mail for my HM. Joni urged contestants to subscribe to his Daily Kicks. I'm not sure if that means he's the new coordinating judge or not, but it looked that way.
Thanks everyone. I didn't have high hopes for the story, but I thought there was a chance. I do know, if Dave is the new judge, he's big on three try/fail cycles.

I might believe he knows he's a Finalist. It's possible that some Finalists have been called already (since as we know, There Is No Pattern). But I wouldn't call a Finalist an acceptance. Duotrope reporting is, as always, suspect.

And if he *was* a Finalist, wouldn't he be prohibited from saying so, which, ok, I suppose the Duo entry *doesn't* say "Hey look at me! Finalist, baby!!" but c'mon.

Now I have to figure out what Dave Farland likes.
Was he announced as the new Coordinating Judge? Are you signed up for the Daily Kicks? He pretty much tells you what he likes:

True, but they use it when they know they're being published! Of course, you may be right in that he knows he's a finalist.

Congratulations, Corbin!
Well thanks but it's my 8th one, so I'm not so much in the Congratulations mood. But I appreciate it all the same.
I ain't cut out to be no Jesse James.

Well, it's possible... I mean, I can imagine... A writer uses Duotrope PRIMARILY to record results for him/herself. If I had results (and I dispute the notion that Finalist is a result up until the time that Winners are announced, but let's go with it for now) and I wanted to record those results, I might completely forget that the "brag box" is on. So using the tool for its primary purpose happens to also invoke its secondary purpose, unintentionally breaking the embargo.
On the other hand... Coming in at the same approximate time as a whole bunch of HMs, I'm guessing it's an HM reported as an "acceptance". The Finalist and Semi notices will be on their own timing, not necessarily the same as the HM timing.

Not to interrupt the Duotropery, but can anyone copy/paste the form text, if I may be so bold as to ask? I'm very interested to know if David Farland is the new Coordinating Judge. I know that in the last several entries I made, Joni was pushing the Daily Kicks, and I'm wondering if this is more of the same, or if she actually said he's the new CJ?
I am honorably mentioned as well. It was my second try and much better than my first.

Has she been? Hmm, my HM says to read the Daily Kick, but it doesn't say he's the coordinating judge, just a judge. And I already get his kicks, though, I must admit, I haven't been reading them since Stephen King bashed Stephanie Meyer. Not because King bashed Meyer, but because of the responses it caused.

Dear Entrant,
Congratulations, you have been chosen as an Honorable Mention in the 2012 first quarter of the L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future contest (quarter ended 31 December). I'll be sending out your certificate shortly but I would like you to state here exactly how your name should be spelled on the certificate, the name of your story AND your address. This just makes it faster for me to administrate this.
Also, and I always say this, only because I really want you to do it. I urge you to join our forum if you have not already, or subscribe to our judge, David Farland's "daily kick in the pants." You can google his name and his site shows up and you can subscribe right there. There is no cost for this.
I do apologize for the delay. We have had the misfortune, if you don't already know, of loosing our coordinating judge, K.D. Wentworth to cancer just this last week. She judged your story and gave you this honor of Honorable Mention. Please see our tributes on-line and if you care to communicate anything about her, please do so.
I do hope you are already working on that next story and do let me know that you did get this e-mail, and make sure you include the information I've requested above.
Best regards,
Joni Labaqui
That's what I got. Sorry for the misinformation.
