If next thursday doesn't bring results, I'm not sure what will happen...
![]()
As for me, personally, I won't care.
Next Friday I fly to DC for the International Space Development Conference, and I get to meet Bill Ledbetter.
Next Saturday, I get to go to the International Space Development Conference, meet Ben Bova (!), and accept an award on behalf of R.P.L. Johnson.
Next Sunday, I get to spend the day with my nieces and their families and see the Apollo 11 Command Module.
The only way Thursday could top all of that would be if they surprise us with winner announcements, and I'm one of them! Anything less than that, and Thursday will just be "the day before DC".

Forget marshmallow launchers... If this takes any longer, I'm going to be shooting s'mores. that's right. Graham crackers... chocolate... and marshmallows... all melted together into a tasty concoction.
That's right... Move over to the send button... Slowly... slowly...
2nd place... I'm not taking no second place. you press first or... My finger is itchy... That's right. That's better first place.
Mmmmm.... These S'mores are really good.

You can have s'mores, then. =)
Hm. If I could choose, what about banana cream pie morsel launchers? Ice cream sundaes? Of course, these would all get quite messy if one were to miss the mouth...

I could say the same for Penumbra with their politics issue right now. I did get my R early, so at least my story's out there right now attempting to make a living.
Also, it's kind of bad when I just started my Q3 entry. May end up being my Q4 entry instead now.

Damn! This quarter is stretching on forever...
I've already wracked up two rejections for my Honorable Mention this quarter, while you're all still waiting for results.
If it makes you all feel any better (and you don't hate statistics), I've quantified Martin's WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! SUBMIT! SUBMIT! SUBMIT! mantra here: http://reflectionsofarationalrepublican.com/2012/05/19/heinleins-business-habits/. It turns out that if you drop enough artillery on a grid square, you will eventually hit something.

hazlett! I've been kinda half idly wondering if you had revised any of your numerical analyses based on the most recent "data" (if I can call it that). But it sounds like you're being more productive and proactive.
And I love your post! Cool stuff! Thanks for sharing it.

No worries. At this point in the contest, there is insufficient data to do much of any analysis. I think all anyone can conclude is that the probability of rejection for anyone but the LAMPS is probably zero. Heck, I'd be surprised if any of the non-LAMPs get anything less than Silver HMs. Other than that, I've got nothing.
I'll be back in full force in Q2....Buahahaha

While it's fun (for some of us) to stress about Q1 - I've given up, I'll get something or nothing ... (I keep thinking they've lost my Day 2 Q1 sub of 231 days), and my Q2 is also out of my control at 35 days. Nothing I can do about either, BUT I can focus on writing the best story ever for Q3, so that's what I'm doing, phone call or no phone call, rejection or something ... I've run out of worrying steam. It might indeed be 2 or 3 more weeks and that is all too hard
Putting my energy into Q3 is so much more therapeutic. Writing the best I can with what I've assembled is my goal ... and then there is that half-finished Q4 story of mine. Think ahead - don't answer the phone when it rings (Evil Martin told me to say the last bit ) But like he said WRITE WRITE WRITE!

Ok now this is getting really weird, because I had another dream last night about Q1. This time instead of 24 winners per year there were 24 finalists and only 6 winners (3 writers and 3 illustrators). I was one of those 24 finalists. About every week they would release one of the names of a person who had been rejected. They had released 5 names so far and I wasn't one of them. That meant out of the 19 names left, there were only 13 more that would be rejected. I was starting to get really excited thinking I still may have a chance to win. Then I woke up before ever finding out.
I don't know whats worse, the fact that I keep having dreams about Q1, or the fact that I keep having dreams about Q1 AND I was rejected 2 months ago!

I'm unfamiliar with this quote. Dare I step into the middle of one of these American conversations that I don't understand? But here goes.
Mark Twain wasn't who I thought of. I thought of Brad Freakin' Torgersen. <img src=" He's already blotted out the sun! If it needs doing again I suggest we just PM him.

The quote is from "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" wherein the hero, Hank Morgan, travels back in time to the court of King Arthur in the year 528. Due to his odd speech and appearance, Hank is condemned to death by burning and saves his life by claiming that he will blot out the sun if the execution goes forward. A well-timed historical eclipse seems to prove his point, so his life is spared.
Bugs was riffing on Twain, too, and since we had an annular eclipse over a wide swath of the US yesterday evening, it seemed the thing to do.

To be fair, I think this thread went a whole 18 hours without a post on Friday night and Saturday morning!
I was going to post how strangely quiet it was, but I felt that would be just wrong to break the silence for that.
On a separate note, I had a giggle last night. I was rereading my time travel story. I forgot there were smores in it!
