Confirmation he is judge and that he's been reading the stories. Let the floodgates of results begin (well small flood. There weren't that many left - Unless he's talking about Q2).

Oh, and I missed this press release: "Off-World" is Top Theme for the Largest Speculative Contest for New Writers this Quarter.

More fodder for your Thursday Anxiety: two press releases in short succession on one day.

Let the games begin! I tried to link to the web site above and it was "too busy". Ah, got it. Yes, I think we are seeing the wind up before the pitch (sorry, Indians and Reds are playing).

Out of curiosity, why do the contest announcements always seem to come out on Thursdays?

Tradition maybe? I also ask why do I have a compulsion to ring in Thursdays at midnight as if it's New Year's Eve?
Will I revisit this website for years into the future every Thursday at 12:01 am until they tie me screaming to a chair? And who, may I ask, are THEY? hmmmm? I ask you that. (breaks out a Hershey's bar for comfort).

11:57

11:58

11:59

12:00 Happy New Thursday!!!!! Good luck, everyone.

12:03 Yeah, maybe I won't do this each year. It's a bit anti-climatic. Though the chocolate was pretty good.

Why does it feel we are setting ourselves up for disappointment?

Also some history on Thursday. It seemed to be a thing for this quarter, we'd get results every Thursday, you could set your clock to it. And like baseball players, theater actors and the Portuguese -- writer's are a superstitious bunch that easily create habits and treat them as absolutes. In past quarters I remember getting results anytime between Tuesday and Thursday. I remember getting results several days in a row in huge batches, instead of one huge batch once a week.

So the people joking about the pattern is there is no pattern are actually being serious.

With all this logic you'd think I'd not have a little hope deep down that tomorrow might be the day we all find out....but sadly I do have a little hope. Maybe because the only thing I am not on that list above is a baseball player.

I suspect that if you search the archives for "Thursday", you'll find some loudmouth noticing the coincidence of results on Thursday for a couple of weeks in a row and thus deciding to look for results on Thursdays.

Whoever that loudmouth is, you should ignore him. The only pattern is... there is no pattern.

Steve, who are your educated votes for finalist?

No educated guesses, no inside knowledge.

Just a couple of comments I've seen around the internet that make me suspicious....

As I said, could be wrong.

Love it! Except now I'm wishing I pulled out a bowl of Rice Krispies. Marshmallow treat walls... But people might be tempted to eat through them, so maybe it's good we stick to the popcorn?

Of course, now I need to go pop another bowl of popcorn. I had planned on *eating* that today while I watched and waited. =)

Dustin, that puts me in the awkward position of hoping you're a prevaricator.

If you're not a finalist as of this posting, that either means Finalist calls have not gone out yet (and I hope they all have), or you're not a Finalist (and I hope you are).

The only third possibility is that they have gone out, you are a Finalist, and you're prevaricating about it. So I'm gonna hope that!

Wait, did you get results Dustin, or are you just saying you haven't gotten a phone call?

Because if it's the latter, I think everyone who hasn't gotten a phone call from Joni should raise their hand.

How am I ever gonna be a writer if I can't get my point across. wotf020

I'm just saying, in relation to Klatuu's having heard hints, that I'm not "in" or even "in the know", so I thought I'd eliminate myself as someone who is a finalist as of June 14th at whatever o'clock I posted.

However, I didn't want to jinx myself and say, "I'm not a finalist" because then those words would be written in e-stone where the prophecy gods could see them, so I added, "as of this posting" to keep the gods at bay.

Sorry for the confusion.

@Martin,
I don't know what prevaricating means, so I doubt I'm capable of doing it. wotf011

@Strycher,
Can you update gwasch to "1xf" because he/she has commented that he/she has reached that level at least once. After that he/she has given no data.

Sorry about the he/she stuff, my memory has more holes than a screen.

At the risk of being tagged as a buzz-kill, I'm a bit uncomfortable with the whole raise a hand if you're not a finalist. It puts those who are finalists in the position of revealing their status by not revealing their status when they've been told to keep quiet. (ie. following the letter of the law, not the intent of the law) OR it forces them to lie just to keep their status a secret. Either way, I don't like making a happy event for them, a stressful event.

No need to participate if one doesn't want to, Isto--I'm certainly not Head of the Thread.

But, you are now under suspicion!

Or, we could do what we did in Q4.

The stories I could tell you...

Course, I said that when I was a finalist, so that might not work...

Just playing around a bit.

I found that as a finalist I was bursting to say without saying--it's fun.
