How's everyone holding up? Status reports?

I still feel like it's too early to submit, and yet my Q1 has been done for months...I should just bite the proverbial projectile and send 'er off.

Don't know...just don't know. Working on a story that contains multiple POVs...it's kinda sketchy. And, what's more, finals are upcoming so I probably won't be doing any writing anytime soon. If my dear mother sees me on my laptop she will most definitely scream at the top of her lungs, (in a voice that sounds like a mixture of a Wampa and the lead singer of AC/DC with a cold), "THAT'D BETTER BE SCHOOL RELATED!!!"
To which I'll reply, "AGHHH!! AT LAST I'M DOING SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE!!!"
and put some loud music on so that I can't hear her.
wotf036

ahh, the wonder and beauty of forceful education... (who am I kidding, I'll be studying for sure....)

I'm writing my final entry today. I feel a little sad and a little relieved. This will be my last quarter waiting on WotF.

On the other hand, my husband has already started doing his happy dance. He can't wait until this is all over (because WotF is the only submission I ever stress about, for some reason).

Why is it your last one? Have you pro'd out?

Well, that's an excellent reason to quit entering. Congratulations on the multiple accomplishments it took to pro-ou, Izanobu!

Congratulations on your pro'ing out, Annie! That is Victory, one way or another! wotf007

But we would be a far sadder and poorer forum of writers and friends ... if your last entry into the contest were also to be a cause for you making less entries HERE with us !!! wotf003

Yeah, thanks to the whole "we don't say it but we mean it" SFWA-qualified only markets counting, I've managed to get 7 pro-paying sales before I pro'd-out (10 over all, but two were semi-pro and one was a reprint). Daily SF finally got SFWA status this September and when my next story with them comes out later this month, that's my ticket to done with WotF.

I have a little send-off present though as soon as I figure out how to put it together. I probably should have long ago stopped reading this forum, but I'm not that kind to my sanity and I've made some good writer friends here wotf008

So does this mean you're gonna start hanging out with us over on the SFWA forums, izanobu? We've lured in a couple of the other regulars from here recently...

Probably not, seeing as I'm not a SFWA member.

So, the hour draws nigh...

Paper or e-sub?

Which are you doing, and why?

Snail mail, all the way! I have complete control over the formatting (no chance it's different going into the envelope than coming out), and I can have its delivery verified by a third party.

Electronic. I always sub at about the last minute anyway.

Nah, I tried to learn to draw a while ago and I just don't have the passion needed to get any good at it. Maybe if I had a bunch of money for lessons and photoshop and a good tablet I'd try my hand at photomanipulation sort of art, but really, I already have a thing I'm trying to be awesome at that takes all my non-reading, non-videogaming time. wotf011

(and there is a lot more money in writing...)

I will snail until they turn that option off in settings.

Formatting is a good reason, and so is my use of dark courier.
Another reason is last time I tried e, my story failed to submit. Just kept getting errors. If I e on the last day, and it fails, I'm out.

So, to more properly identify with my MC for my Q1 story, who is bald, I shaved my head today.

Ok... what really happened was I mistook the 3/8" attachment for the 7/8" one.
wotf018
However, my MC really is bald, and the association seems to be working, so I may do this again in the future.

Remind me never to write a female protag.

LOL, Dustin. I forgot to put the attachment on at all once. I am forever grateful - for my son's sake - that it was the first week of summer break when it happened.

Me, I've been known to rehearse dialogue out loud. In the shower. wotf022

Maybe that explains why I've been writing so many female protagonists lately. It's the hair...

Well, my hat is officially in the ring. I don't have particular hopes for this entry, but it's better than no entry. I'll just work on making a kick-heinie Q2.

Congrats to all of you who already have your Q1 story in. I'm just starting the edits on my rough draft today. I know what I want to add/change/pull forward, but seem to be having a devil of a time convincing myself to focus on it.
