@jason Jody was my choice—I’ve listened to her teach at a couple of WotF workshops now. I’m sad about the circumstances, but I know she will do a great job, and that the Contest is in good hands.

For those of you that write humor, Jody coauthored several Myth books with Robert Asprin—they were close friends. I think you’d find she has a soft spot for humorous fantasy if you can do it well. If you want to know what she likes, study what she has written.

Fortune favor the brave … and the studious!

Fortune favor the brave … and the studious!

That caught my eye when I was looking over her history--I first purchased one of Robert Asprin's books as a gift for my mother, who has always been a voracious reader, and later started making my way through them myself. I saw him write, once, about how irritating it was to have to do preparation ahead of writing, because he--like many of us--just wanted to get into the fun of actually writing the thing...

It's an impressive list of individual and co-author credits. I don't think I've read anything novel-length by her, but dollars to donuts, my Mam likely has.

Yup, now we get to tumble down the rabbit-hole of trying to figure out what our new co-ordinating judge may be on the lookout for! Not that it'll actually change anything--mostly, it just means I think "this is probably not the right thing" and then submit it anyway. I see no reason to rethink my clearly ill-conceived strategy at this stage.

Me too lol. I suck at humor, though, so I'll stay true to myself and write whatever comes to mind, and submit it despite knowing Jody might not like it.

As the coordinating judge, I'm sure she'll be interested in putting together a well-balanced anthology with a nice mixture of different types of science fiction and fantasy.

Congratulations Jody Lynn Nye on the new position. It's good to know the contest is in good hands.

Her likes are a lot like Dave's were, he also wanted humor.

I think everyone should keep writing the way they have. You still have to get by Kary English, the first reader.

If your beginning doesn't impress Kary, Jody will never see your submission.

There is a singular question burning in all of our minds right now that we DEMAND answers to; what does JLN think about semi-colons?

Did this post contain a "Fantasy" element in the first five pages? No

Did this post contain a grounding in humor in the first page? Yes

After the news about da new judge, I read Jody Lynn Nye's stories in v's 34, 36, and 37. I must say I am very excited for the future of the contest.

For the serious contestant these stories should be required reading, just saying. Write On!

I wanted to try writing something fun this QTR so maybe this will work out. Although I have not really tried writing fun before. What's the worse that can happen, an R? At least I'll have fun writing it.

This was great, but I thought of questions I would have wanted to ask far too late. A knack of mine, I find, to think of questions way after the fact. Well, fingers crossed I get the chance to ask them myself at some other time in the future...

John has always wanted to do more Ask Me Anything sessions with judges. Maybe we can get Jody to answer some questions here.

Oh damn, I forgot to ask the most important question of all at the Q&A.

Will results still be released on Thursdays?
