For the record, I was looking into business cards this evening and it looks like Staples has a better starting rate than Vistaprint (250 starting at $9.99 as opposed to 100 starting at $14.99).

I’ve been signed up for a few months now. Gone the last two years. I’m ridiculously shy/socially anxious and don’t really talk to people much at these things, even though that’s half the point...but I did better with this last year than the first, and hope to improve further in this area for the next one. It’d be great to meet some of you folks.

Feel free to hang out with me! I'm pretty introverted, so we can hold each other accountable for being more social if you'd like! Smile

I think writers tend toward the introvert side in general. One of my favorite books of the last few years is called Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain. It helped me understand myself in a new light. But most relevant in this case, she talked about how we step outside our default and become more extrovert when we are passionate about something.

Well, if you haven't figured it out yet, I'm not an introvert. Idealist Champion. ENFP. I am energized by groups, and find joy in helping people reach their full potential. Which makes me happy to see many taking my advice to attend Superstars. It's another step toward becoming the youest of yous!

See you soon!

Oooh, you're an Idealist Healer. My wife is one. Powerful empaths, and you consider yourself fortunate if you make a Healer's true friend's list.

See you at Superstars! You better come to my filking event on Game Night! ALL of you!

I also did a karaoke event at a club in Old Town for any not going to (<cough, cannot afford>) the magnificent banquet event. Thinking of doing it again. Actually got to spend time with a Superstars member that came that told me she was developing an idea for an anthology she titled HOW I GOT PUBLISHED AND WHAT I LEARNED ALONG THE WAY. Guess who got a personal invite. : )

You never know what might happen when you leave your room and engage in after hours frivolity at a seminar or con. But nothing will happen if you stay in your room. wotf011

Cheers!

I'm an INFP according to the most recent test I've done, although that fits me in some ways more than others. Healer, sure; idealist...kind of.

Anyway...filking is something to do with music, I gather? Anything that requires to me to do anything musical usually is going to have me hiding in the nearest dumpster.

Wow, Idealists are rare, like 10% of the population. So being in a subgroup like INFP is around 2%. How interesting to have so many here. We're going to get along great at Superstars!

I will add that because Idealists are all about the heart, when it comes to the emotional craft of fiction, you already intuitively understand. You'll have +10 on your dice rolls when it comes to writing emotional stories, and in fiction, that is a VERY good thing.

Alas, it does not always mean +10 on singing, Chezecaek. But it's filking, so it's more like singing pirate shanties. Even the worst pirates could do that. Smile

See you soon!

Leah, Think popular show tunes and rock songs, but with geeky science fiction and fantasy lyrics. We do "The Ballad of Serenity" from Firefly, Stace Johnson, my partner in crime, does "Hey There Chthulhu," and we do other science fiction and fantasy folk music, a Rush song in honor of Kevin J. Anderson, and one or more of my original songs. I also sing Christy Moore's "Dance to the Reel in the Flickering Light" which might seem Irish folk, but is actually a fantasy song about forest creatures getting together for a dance, and an assertive daddy longlegs spider takes a shine to a man's daughter. Lots of fun stuff, and great fun to sing in groups. Stace and I do a much more organized filking session than the normal chaotic con fare. We call ourselves MoonLyte Productions, and it's more like an informal coffee shop performance with a song set and lyric printouts so everyone can sing along. This is my pet peeve at con filking events. No one has the words, so it's hard for anyone but the performers to participate unless you already know the songs.

Here's a great example of filk. Stace sings this one: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=ch ... &FORM=VIRE

We host our filking event on Game Night/Pizza Night. Game night takes over the Antlers Hotel's main restaurant, and we are in the adjacent banquet room. You'll hear us. Bring your pizza in and come sing! Great chance to bond with Superstars peeps!

See you all there!

Cheers!

Randomly did the 16 personalities quiz. I'm here to join the ranks of the INFPs (and also the filking, because that sounds like fun). wotf019

That is crazy, Liz. How can so many be in one place? They really are rare. Perhaps not rare among science fiction and fantasy writers. The I would be quite handy for spending long hours alone in the chair writing.

I look forward to filking together and enjoying pizza night!

I didn't know what an INFP was, so I did the test. I wasn't sure about many questions, but apparently I'm one too:

Your personality type is:
Mediator
INFP-A

And that's a good idea, Henckel!

A HUGE number of Idealists in this group! Strange. They represent about 10% of the population.

Yes, the Myers Briggs test is very useful in understanding individuals and what makes them tick and their roles in society. I highly recommend Kiersey's PLEASE UNDERSTAND ME II, which evaluates the results of this test and what it means. When you understand the concepts, you understand people. This will add depth to your characters.

Not quite sure when I’ll be there tomorrow. My girlfriend’s parents’ house where I’m staying isn’t all that close and I may want to sleep in a bit. I might be at the welcome mixer but last year I fled from that event because my autistic ass couldn’t handle the crowd. Guess we’ll see.

Oh yeah, and my real name is Riley Odell, rather than Chezecaek, sadly.
