I've listened to 15 minutes of the podcast and there is definitely room for improvement. The only author I was sure of knowing who was being introduced was Brandon Sanderson. The narrator could have said the names in a clockwise manner giving me a better chance at knowing who is talking.
Just my input not a complaint.

Well, this was a con panel, it's not a true podcast. They were all introduced, and then you have to keep tracking with what you remember of their voices. I have it easier--I've spent time with all of them, except Brandon Sanderson.
So what advice did they give that rang true for you Forumites?

There was a magazine in the past, Penumbra, that more than a few forumites subbed to. They asked writers to follow a prompt. I agree with the judges about the usefulness of the idea.

I listened to the podcast yesterday. Very informative. Its core subject was about generating ides, but what I found most interesting was the subject of story length.
I don't recall his exact words, but one of the panel members said he prioritise a solid longer story over a clever shorter one… something about evidence of an author's sustainability in the business.
Anyway, I definitely recommend that forum members listen to it.

Enjoyable. Very interesting discussion about the difference between short stories and novels related to another post the other day. I read short stories but not nearly as often as I do novels. I really enjoyed hearing them talk about what they’re looking for too - the biggest thing I heard is what Margaret Atwood has said for writing advice: HOLD MY ATTENTION.
And, fortune favor those with grit.

Doesn't bother me that I don't know who's talking, it's what they say that's interesting. For me, disregarding the length, it has a lot more than the other podcasts. I do like to have an idea of the ending of my stories - to have an idea of my destination, even if the journey can go its own way.
I'll give this one several listens - lots of good points.
And - damn - I read a lot of novels and think novel ideas when I'm writing s/s.

You're smart, Tim. You are studying the experts. They are also your judges in this contest. They are telling you not only how to write professional stories. They are telling you the criteria they judge stories by. It can give you an edge. In the Winter Olympics, skiers win by one well-turned edge.
Cheers!

I made a few notes. I'll take another listen and make more.

Martin Shoemaker's recent podcast is also nice. I enjoyed the good things he said about the spirit of the Forum. Instead of paying it forward, people here pay it now, using their knowledge to help fellow members. To me, that's the right way to be. Why wait until we get to the top to help our fellow? We all have insight that can benefit others, and power according to our own abilities to help one another out. Martin's comments shined a light on the good spirit here.
Cheers!
