I had a lap top, until it died. Used open Office word program.
I have an alpha smart neo2 which is awesome, but can be difficult for editing, as you can only see a few lines. But ace for belting it out.
Several old typewriters, I should be using more.
Gave an electric typewriter away?! Need to get another.
Currently using word on a (2003) desktop.
Due to how I'm writing, I may revert to a typewriter for ease.
Just wish the alpha smart had more readable lines.
What about you?

I saw one of those "over the years" videos last night showing the market share of operating systems since 1984. I was/am surprised to know Android is the current leader. Otherwise it's filled with MS OSs.
Wonder where Ubuntu is on there.

MS word on MS 11. Pretty generic. Pretty expensive, actually. 🙁

@tj_knight you need a larger monitor for the desk too - time to write that letter to Santa

I don't know. The Alpha smarts are tiny.
Just make the zoom in huge.
Looking at the zerowriter, a new alpha smart types of gubbins. With many more lines on screen.
There is something in those that just clicks. One click to automatically turn them on. Just write, save.
I wish I had kept the electric typewriter to try. Getting a story into the physical world asap for red pen is a notion I'm keen on.
Almost all the greats used traditional typewriters. I've dabbled, but may need to try that more.
They are always on and ready to go, less ribbon and jam issues, typically depending on the typewriter.
You should even be able to have a program to read scans of the type to put it on computer easily??
So you could literally cut and paste and have a great time.
Lap tops/alpha smart types, are easier to carry around, unlike desktops and typewriters. Though pen and paper wins there.
Too many options!

I’d love to. That’s my laptop which I occasionally take places with me.
I’ve seen large monitors turned 90 degrees for big, long pages. That would be awesome.

I float between three writing tools:
- My work computer, which has MS Word. Mostly I use this for final review and formatting before submission since most editors require manuscript submissions in Word.
- My iPad Pro, where I'm rocking Pages. I use this the most because it's portable. I do most of my writing at the library on my lunch hour.
- Good old-fashioned pen and paper. Usually for my initial brainstorming and research and note-taking/outlining.

I write in Google Docs, which means I can write anywhere on anything that uses the internet (and can go offline if needed) - on my Chromebook in the car, on my phone when I want to jot down a couple notes at lunch, sneakily at my day job, or just at home on my gaming PC.
My most satisfying writing tends to happen either on the Chromebook in the car or on my PC. I used to have to take long car rides a lot, and I always used to daydream in the car to pass the time, so something about being in the car really lends itself to writing for me. And on my PC... I just recently got a really nice, bouncy, clicky-clacky keyboard, and something about that is super satisfying and motivating. I want to make the fun sounds, so I type more. It also has lights, which have a program that sets off waves of color for every key you hit. Also very fun and motivating.
I've thought about getting a typewriter, because I think they're neat, but I think most of them would require too much pressure/muscle, and I have some issues with joint/nerve pain, which I think would not play well with a typewriter. It's why I like my new keyboard so much. It's really smooth and has a soft touch. My keyboard at work is pretty nice too, but it's harder to focus on writing when you're worried about someone looking over your shoulder and seeing you're not working on actual work 😅
