After the workshop, and Orson Scott Card recommending Writing to the Point, by Algis Budrys, I ordered a copy off of ebay, and it turned out to be signed by the author! I’m really enjoying it. Very concise, fantastic advice, extremely “to the point” itself. I recognized one chapter that was included in our very similar to an advice of his from an early WOTF volume. There’s gold in this tiny little pamphlet-sized book.
Next to read after this are the two craft books by Card which I also found online and will be reading. I read scores and scores of books a year, of which about 10 are usually craft books.
I’m also working on making my Tortoise Enclosure more distraction-free and increasing butt-in-chair hours.
I'm so jealous! What a find.

Brilliant. When I looked into buying a copy a few years ago, the cheapest was around US$80.
I wondered why the book was no longer available as an ebook.

You can get the reprint as part of the "Million Dollar" series. I believe KJA's house received the rights to reprint. That's the copy I have.

Even for that, the cheapest I can find in the UK is £339 (about US$400)!

I doubt anyone's paid anywhere near that much.

Ewww. It's out of print. I wonder if the rights were for a limited time. Must have been. Anyone know KJA personally can ask him?

I read a copy that was available on The Library of Congress website. It's not the same as owning a copy, but it's free.

@storysinger Now you mention it, I think I read a copy via an online library. I was definitely on a waiting list for a while!

I had no idea how lucky I was to find this until you guys made it known that it’s usually costly and hard to find. What a steal mine was at $9.86 after shipping, such a stroke of luck. I’ve loaned it out already to another writer friend of mine, who writes as Anne Shelley. Even if she never returns it, it will do better to keep being passed from writer to writer than sitting in some book shop somewhere. My best craft books always end up shoved into the hands of someone whose talent I admire.

My understanding was that while the craft advice in the book was timeless, the business of publishing has changed so much, several of the chapters are now completely out of date. So Kevin pulled it. I heard this second-hand, so take it with the necessary amount of salt grains.
