How We Are Keeping Winners, Judges, Guests, and Staff Safe and Well During the Writers & Illustrators of the Future Workshops and Event
We have been closely monitoring developments regarding the coronavirus. Our policies follow recommendations from the Los Angeles Department of Health and the rules provided from the Roosevelt Hotel. The Contest winners and judges will be staying at the Roosevelt Hotel and the workshops will take place there. As you are aware, the recommendations and regulations are evolving. This web page will be updated to keep you informed as much as possible.
We are excited to see you in person! While we will be abiding by a few strict precautions, please realize that some of our guests and distinguished judges are no longer young adults and we are looking out for them as well as everyone in attendance. We appreciate your assistance in keeping everyone safe to ensure a great experience for all of us!
The Writers & Illustrators of the Future workshops will take place in private seminar rooms in the historical Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The Roosevelt has been certified by the California Hotel & Lodging Association (CHLA) Clean + Safe Standards for COVID-19. The entire hotel is regularly sanitized from fully disinfecting all guest rooms prior to arrival, down to hourly sanitization of elevator buttons. The hotel has been upgraded with MERV13 Air Filters. There are two restaurants located in the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Both are in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) city and state guidelines. Hotel guests have the option for No Contact transaction by ordering food and beverage items through their online store, accessible by smartphone and in-room television. Additional information from the hotel can be found here: https://www.thehollywoodroosevelt.com/travel-information-for-covid-19
Sanitization will also be done by us throughout the day in the workshop spaces. And, of course, regularly washing your hands and using hand sanitizer will help protect yourself and others.
The current government regulations require that you wear a mask (whether you are vaccinated or not): at the airport when you arrive; while being driven in provided transportation to the hotel; while riding in any public transportation; while you are here; while you are in the hotel, local stores, restaurants (when not eating); and while in the workshops.
To help stop the spread of COVID-19, the City of Los Angeles is requiring all travelers entering the city from another state or country be informed of the CDC’s travel advisory and fill out an online form to confirm this. The CDC’s travel advisory and online form can be found here: https://travel.lacity.org/
Travelers over the age of 16 years must submit this online form prior to or upon arrival in Los Angeles. The CDC’s travel advisory provides, in summary, their requirements for COVID-19 testing and self-isolation upon arrival if not vaccinated.
We also ask that guests be fully vaccinated or have a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to arrival. As a note to those who have been fully vaccinated, it would be wise to bring your evidence of this, in the event it is needed. The vaccination requirement by the government and local businesses has been changing and may change by the time you arrive.
All employees of Writers & Illustrators of the Future have been fully vaccinated.
We appreciate your cooperation and patience and we really look forward to seeing you here in Los Angeles!
