The second annual Awards ceremony was held in conjunction with Norwescon at the Seattle-Tacoma Red Lion Inn in Washington on March 21, 1986. For the second year’s event, a new grand prize was instituted, the L. Ron Hubbard Gold Award, which was won by Robert Touzalin (Robert Reed), who went on to publish numerous critically acclaimed novels, receive nominations for the Nebula, Hugo and John W. Campbell Award, and win the Hugo.
Judges presenting the awards included Anne McCaffrey, Stephen Goldin, Jack Williamson, Robert Silverberg and Larry Niven. Brian Herbert represented his father, the late Frank Herbert, a Contest judge who had passed away the year before.
