Welcome, Jessica! And I realized I missed saying welcome to Tony and Alejandro, so...welcome, guys!
2X HM
1X Silver HM
2X Semi-Finalist
Hi I'm Jessica. I'm from Ontario Canada and I just submitted my entry for Q3. This is my first time entering the contest so I'm hopeful, yet realistic about my chances haha!
A bit late but I give my welcome too.
"tis fun here and it can be considered a learning experience---not only with how to write but in which way writers are crazy.

Hi, Jessica! Welcome and good luck. My first entry was a semi-finalist. (The problem has been all the entries SINCE then )
Stewart C Baker - 1st place, Q2 V32
My contest history: Semi-finalist, R, HM, R, R, HM, HM, R, R, R, R, HM, R, R, R, R, Winner
My pen name is Michael Bach. I'm a Canadian, but don't hold that against me unless you happen to be a very attractive woman. Also, don't tell my wife or my writing career will be quickly ended as my beloved will chop off my hands and burn all my computers and printouts.
All things come out in the end... The only question is, from which end will they emerge?

Welcome, Mike! Sounds like you like to live dangerously.
I'm not an attractive woman, but if you and/or your wife would like to engage in mutilative and retaliatory behaviour anyway I can put on a dress... I like to make people happy when I can.

I think you can avoid the dress and I will avoid my wife when and if needed.
For the record I'm not the jealous type - my wife is. Fortunately I can run very fast.

But but but donkeys!! In dresses!!!
Hmm... Sounds like a children's book. *wanders off wondering*

O.K. you can wear a dress, but I require, at least, a 2 meter no fly zone.

Welcome new members, wearing dresses, pants, kilts, whatever.

Hello, there Nice to meet ya.
But where were you we could have used you a month or two ago.
Some of us entered a Canadian contest, one or two--not me--got in but with you it might have been three.
You better not watch the WotF video of the awards event then. So me nice looking woman there, including Tina the BIG prize winner. And I mean the price is big not her.

Hey, that would be unusual.
We have a rabbit here that probably would wear a dress sometimes and of course a gator but a donkey? Well, that would be different.

I can't decide if "scarred" is a typo or a deliberate choice, or if it makes more or less sense than "scared."
I am totally changing my avatar to this image whenever I get the chance, so I can confuse and disturb everyone involved.

Hi everyone
I've been lurking around this forum for a while and thought I'd finally introduce myself. I've been a little intimidated at posting here after seeing how many contestants have honourable mentions and have been finalists. My tally: 6 form rejections and counting. I have my fingers and toes crossed for this quarter as I think I'm on the verge of disqualifying myself (which I'm obviously really happy about) but I would also really love something other than a form rejection.
Anyway, I'm an ecologist from Australia and write and read speculative fiction whenever I get a chance.
I'm looking forward to taking a closer look at the forums and seeing what I can learn here.
Welcome aboard, Flexi.
I'm also in Australia. Melbourne, in fact. Any chance we'll see you at continuum next weekend? Don't get overly concerned about the HM, reject thing. The contest, like any other market, is a matter of taste, so while those that get awards deserv them, hey do occasionally miss some great writers. Kevin J. Anderson comes to mind. Plus there have been a number of forumites who have won nothing but can no longer enter because of professional sales.
Good luck
Steve

Hi Steve
Thanks for the welcome and words of encouragement. Alas I'm stuck in SA and can't get to C9.

Rees, I presume?
Welcome!
Edit: Incidentally, it's entirely possible to go from form rejections to gold prize. Tina Gower did it in Q1 of last year's anthology.

Welcome Flexi! I got my first honorable mention on submission #12, after 11 straight form rejections. Just keep entering until you win or pro out!

I meant "scarred" as in "scarred-for-life," and after Steve's generous contribution, I see that my choice of words was decidedly appropriate.

Thanks, austinDm. Congrats on the HM. It's good to know there may be hope for me yet.

Yes. I thought I recognised your avatar. I still haven't worked out how to post a picture of my lovely plumage. I should probably stop being lazy and go read the FAQ or something.
