Here's the "my Avatar hates me and won't work" thread, with instructions.
I've never tried so I don't know if I can get it to work for me.
If I ever find a good pic--or even look for one--I would probably give it a try. I was thinking an eagle would be good.

Just thought I'd jump in and say "hi."
Submitted to Q2 Vol. 30, trying to wrap up my Q3 and have been following the forums for a few months. I finally caved and decided to join.
Good luck to everyone who's still waiting to hear on the results. I'm still waiting too...

Thanks Preston!
And that would be cool if I won! I'd love that. I think the story I submitted last round may not have been quite right for this contest, though--it was a bit on the dark side. But I'm hoping my Q3 will be a better fit.
I'm also smiley-happy:

Greetings everyone, thought I'd say hello.
Entered Q2 v30 for my first ever writing contest. I have always kept my writing to myself up until now was a huge leap for me, I am sure that is understood here. Anyways I mostly write fantasy with some occasional horror and scifi.

Hiya, I made semi-finalist in Q2 Vol 30 (first try), and my very awesome mentor, Jason Fischer (who is a past winner) suggested I jump on here to get some more tips. I've been writing since 2010, mostly dark fantasy, sci fi and horror. I've had several stories published, but I'm always searching for the elusive acceptance (I had a long drought that was broken only recently). I'd love to make finalist!
Welcome! And congrats on your semi!
Those are fun. You know you get a critique of your story, right?

Welcome to all the new members! We can get pretty crazy around here, particularly around results time. (It's like a full moon that comes out once every three months or so.) But crazy can be fun, too!

Hi Everyone!
I'm a new member (obviously) and just moved to the New England area. I'm a big fan of everything fantasy and sci-fi.
I mentioned to my fiance that I have always been interested in writing short fiction, as I have jotted many ideas down and put a good amount of words onto paper over the past few years while I was in college. She convinced me to find a way to make myself known! You never know until you try, she said.
Looking forward to writing and sending my work out, even if I am very critical of myself.
Good to meet everyone!

Hello all.
I am Isabella, I just found this website two days or more ago. It looks fantastic, and I am hoping to enter the contest rather soon. But when you say fantasy and sci-fi is that the only genre I can write for it?? Just wondering as there are many more I would love to write for the contest.
Love Izzy
Hiya - I'm JB. I've been submitting sporadically to the WoTF contest since 2008 - a story here, a story there. I think I've submitted four times. I'm also a member of the SCBWI... are there any SCBWIers here? Anyway, looking forward to taking part in these forums and submitting more consistently. Thanks!
Welcome Isabella and JB. The waters fine -- just don't mind the Gator.
Isabella all stories submitted to the contest should have a fantastic element to them. I have submitted horror, but always supernaturally base stories, ghosts, elder gods, etc. Main stream fiction without a critical fantastical element would be bounced.
I hope that clears up any questions you have.

Hola Bob
Thank you for letting me know. I seriously didn't expect to have a reply this soon!
I guess I have quite a few stories I could submit under the fantasy element < not the banana's life story, don't worry
I look forward in taking part.
Thanks a bunch.

Hellooo there Isabelel.... How are yooooU?
Pardon me for kinda of shouting thee but there's a distance between us---made by time...I'm a little late here.
Anyway, as you know already WotF likes Speculative stories. But as also suggested they don't mind a fusion so do a Mystery-SF Or a Fantasy-Romance. A Female Dwarf has to decide between two Tall, broad shouldered, male dwarves with huge noses and puffy jowls. One never knows what is attractive to female Dwarves after all.

Hi, I'm Ryne. Just submitted my second entry. My last won an honorable mention.
So, a quick question: with my most recent entry, I was in a rush and I made the stupid mistake of forgetting the headers (title and page numbers) as well as forgetting to double space. Does anyone know if this means an automatic disqualification, or if there is any leeway?
Thanks!
Hey LD
Thanks for the tip, I've been thinking of one already. It's perfect.
