well, this isn't really 'personal success' but it does speak to try, try, try, try....try again.
After applying AGAIN to the sfwa mentorship program (I think this is the 5th time) I finally got accepted and matched to a mentor. Now all I have to do is find the time in between 'real life' to do it properly!

Watershed moment for me, as I've just had my first story accepted by Analog. When the paperwork's signed (maybe a month away, due to the transition there) I'll reveal the title.
This will represent my third sale at 'pro' rates and a long, hard slog to get here!
As I understand the rules, I'm still eligible to compete in the Contest, tho I welcome clarification on this.

@angelslayah congrats! its an awesome achievement to be in one pro market let alone 3, and analog is not just pro its truly prestige!
I've heard different things from different people on when you pro out. Simplest and most authorative way to know would be to ask Joni Labaqui directly. She's always been lovely in answering any of my questions, and I think she's the one that reviews this so why not go to the source

To the letter of the rules, it's "more than three", which makes the fourth sale the disqualifying one (and the language really isn't ambiguous--it's one novel or short novel, more than one novelette, or more than three short stories that will disqualify you). It's also worth noting that if a market is pro-paying, but doesn't have good distribution yet, it might still not fully qualify (see the 5,000 copies/hits comment, a pro-paying but small, low-distribution magazine may not count towards disqualification either).
Obviously, Analog absolutely is a disqualifying sale.
Additionally, it's publication, and not sale, that is the disqualifying event--which makes sense, as occasionally, you'll sell a story, and then a year or two later they'll decide not to publish it after all, sometimes and sometimes not paying you a termination fee for the cancelled publication, depending on their specific terms. So it'd be ridiculous to be disqualified on the basis of sales only.

@angelslayah I'm going through a similar process with the same publisher now. Have been since January (although that might've been the publisher change). If it takes them a while to get back to you, I wouldn't get discouraged.
