Awesome!! clapper   I hope you take a breath to celebrate! We spend so much time between successes we need to make the success linger for a moment, and I hope you allow yourself to do that!

"The Ones Who Walk Away From New Jerusalem," my first story that's a response to another story (I'll let you guess which Smile ) is coming out in Sci Phi Journal.

Also the first time I've had an editor censor a cuss word in a story (not because his editorial preferences but because of how Belgian govt support works and their distribution).

EDIT: It's out now: https://www.sciphijournal.org/index.php/2025/12/12/the-ones-who-walk-away-from-new-jerusalem/

I've had some exciting news. My story from Vol 41 of WotF, "The Stench of Freedom":

  1. Is long listed for the 2026 BSFA Award for Best Shorter Fiction (the British equivalent of the Nebulas or the Auroras), which came as a huge but wonderful shock ( https://www.bsfa.co.uk/bsfa-awards-longlist ), and
  2. Received a double star rating in the Tangent Online Recommended Reading List 2025! Another huge but wonderful shock ( https://tangentonline.com/news/tangent-online-2025-recommended-reading-list/ ).

It's like what they say about buses (or at least we do in the UK), you wait around for one [bit of good news], then two [bits] come along at once grinning

If there just so happens to be any British Science Fiction Association members in the forum who are still considering which stories to vote for the BSFA Awards finalists / shortlist before the 19 February deadline, then I would be most grateful if they'd consider my story smiley

If you have not read my story, but wish to do so, then it is available to read or download from my website for free during the voting period ( https://joelcscoberg.com/im-on-the-bsfa-award-long-list/ )

Diolch pawb / thanks everyone!

Very nice @joel-c-scoberg!

Incidentally, a story published by the imprint I'm part of, "For the Rectitude of our Intentions" by Stephen Kotowych, also got longlisted for the BSFA short fiction award. Although they spelled our name wrong :p  We're Calendar of Fools.

@andydibble I saw that! Congratulations on that recognition for your anthology. Stephen is also a former WotF winner (Grand Prize no less). Another WotF winner from Vol 41 (not on this forum, I don't think), Andrew Jackson, has his winning story "Code L1" on the BSFA List and is published in your anthology too! Good news all round bananarama
