I've been trying to find this old movie for a very long time and was wondering if anyone can help. My brain could be mashing up movies. I don't even know when I saw it, only that it's a memory. I honestly don't know if it was a dream either, but I think it's a movie.
I remember so clearly a green field with a cliff and all these horses are on it. Some of the horses have wings, but they all had hooves of fire. So they were fiery winged horses. There was a tower or a place where the princess was held captive beyond the cliff, so the way that the hero had to go save her was by riding on one of these winged horses. I can see the herd of horses running in my head and flying across this cliff to get to this white tower where the princess was.
But the princess is guarded by this monster, which is a dinosaur/godzilla looking type of beast and it has a horn on the top of its head or on its snout. It's a green creature and the way that it can be killed is if the hero cuts off the horn. I don't remember very clearly how the hero does it, but I remember very clearly what the creature looked like from the head up. It was pretty ugly. And I remembered that when the horn was torn off or whatever, there was this slime that was stuck on it where the bone met flesh. I remember the horn coming off.
There's also the tower or building that the princess is trapped in. I remember that it was white and looked like the inside of bone marrow, the sponge part, with all the holes and different sized spaces. The inside of the building was like this, a maze of sorts that was like the inside of a very white sponge.
It's also in color, but it looks like technicolor. So probably not super old but old enough. The colors are muted in a way, not bright like today's colors. It's got the color feel of the 70's and 80's. Definitely not 90's and above.
It's not the Neverending Story, Krull, or Jason and the Argonauts. I've tried looking for so long. lol
Anyone who can take a guess, thank you.
~ I honestly believe that good stories write themselves. You can always start writing a story, but the characters tell their own tales and if you're lucky enough, you get to merely be in the audience watching everything unfold. ~ 8/1/2022

I can't match this to any one thing in my memory--the hooves do sound like Krull, and the monster immediately sounds like the one in Conan the Destroyer?

Yay! I’ll go look!
I thought I was just crazy. ?
I looked. That is super cool. It’s not the monster I remember and not quite the horn. But maybe I just dreamed it after watching Conan. ? I think so.
The monster had a short horn. It was white-ish and came off cleanly. It’s so weird. I remember it vividly. It’s probably a dream. Lol
Thank you both! ?

Your vivid description has piqued my curiosity! While I can't provide an exact match, your movie scene shares elements of classic fantasy films. The imagery of fiery-winged horses and the perilous rescue of a captive princess is reminiscent of iconic tales. Considering the technicolor style and muted tones, could it possibly be "The Flight of Dragons" (1982) or "The Last Unicorn" (1982)? Though not a perfect fit, these films exhibit fantastical elements akin to your description. Continue your quest, and I hope you find the cinematic gem you're seeking!

It sounds like you might be describing the 1982 fantasy film "The Last Unicorn," directed by Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin Jr. In the movie, there is a scene where the hero, Prince Lír, rides on the back of a winged unicorn to rescue Princess Amalthea, who is held captive in a tower by the villainous King Haggard. The tower does have a distinctive appearance, resembling bone marrow as you described.
It sounds like you’re describing The Last Unicorn (1982). It has a scene with a winged unicorn and a special tower that might match what you remember.
