We are looking for volunteer beta readers for Volume 39. The book will need reads before typesetting (mid-December 2022) and after typesetting (January 2023).
This will take some dedicated reading time. And the more eyes reading the better. So if you have interest in doing this, please contact Meliva Koch [email protected]. Please let her know if you have any experience with beta reading or proofreading.
If you did this last year, you are welcome again and she will reach out to you if you don’t reach her first.
And we would also appreciate your posting reviews when the book releases.
And the more eyes reading the better.
Isn't that the truth. It always amazes me how typos can get to the publishing phase without being spotted.
I was granted the privilege of an electronic copy of 37 and pointed out some mistakes but the print run was already initiated.
I would definitely love the opportunity to help.

@storysinger it's an email address, so if you don't have a default email app set up it may not do anything. Just copy and paste into the "to" field of an email.

Storysinger did that work to just copy and paste it into the "To" field of your regular email system? Thank you all for the kind words and help.
I've done it a couple of times now. Be glad to help again. I sent Melida an email.

Thanks Jason and Ease. I tried the copy and paste but that didn't work either. I ended up typing it in and emailed Meliva.
If I can help in any way I stand ready to do so.

I'm confused by the request for beta readers. I thought that beta readers would read for content edits (such and such is confusing, or I don't believe such and such, this is boring, or you can improve this section by), but I thought that these stories would get such comments from Jody as the editor. Are you expecting readers to give feedback beyond copyedits?

Thank you for the post. Just to clarify: Alpha readers look at writing before it's polished, the rough draft. Beta readers look at polished work. Beta readers might find a discrepancy in the text that no earlier person saw. But mostly they are looking for the spelling, grammar or punctuation errors or inconsistencies that appear in the text. Our book editor, Dean Wesley Smith, is editing for the stories for flow and continuity. He isn't doing fine copyedits. We have two copyeditors. And we need beta readers to catch anything anyone else may have missed along the way.
Any beta readers of Volume 40 hanging around here? Would love to chat if you were one of them.

I'm not sure how that phase went this time. It seemed more prominent in 39. I offered to beta, then sent a reminder, only to be told beta phase is over and we're on to ARCs. Hopefully I get in on that...

@tj_knight I have reason to believe they re-used prior volunteers, who I will chase down individually if this blanket summons fails.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can ARC read for them.
