Congratulations everyone with their SHMs too.

Duotrope reports some acceptances, is that likely or are they mistaking an HM for an acceptance, I wonder.

I'd be assuming the latter.

Congratulations everyone! I'm new to the contest, so wondering if someone could explain the difference between Silver HM and HM.

Digging a little deeper, Dave (and Kary) do a first pass and start sifting into piles. Rs go into the R pile. Read this one goes into another pile. From there, HMs are sorted. Dave's done several Kicks about this, and I think someone recently posted it. Basically he finds a few things that stop it from going higher, but it's a well written story that deserves a level of praise.

After that you've got the possible finalist pile. Stories that Dave will read through again, or more carefully. A higher metric, if you will. While not absolute, in general this "final pile" makes up the SHM, SF, and F.

So it can be loosely said that if you received a SHM, your story was in contention and was scrutinized for inclusion, but was beat out by only 16 other stories. Thus, SHM is a good thing.

Congratulations to all that are getting those wonderful certificates, some of you for the very first time! And special congratulations to Corbin, Liz, Crystal, Michael...who else am I missing?...for getting Silver HMs! That's a big deal in a contest quarter with thousands of entries from around the world. You were part of the cream skimmed off the top of all those entries they received! Actually, the crème de la crème! Well done!

And for any wondering how they can up their writing game, John Goodwin asked me to announce THE NEW WRITERS OF THE FUTURE ONLINE WORKSHOP! That's right! It's here! I made a post under the Writing Craft category, but I'll post here as well. Enjoy a taste of the Writers of the Future Hollywood workshop! These are the same instructors! Go to WritersoftheFuture.com and click on FREE ONLINE WORKSHOP!

May this help you hit the bullseye on your next submission!

All the beast!

Congrats all!

This forum is where the messy blood sweat and tears that goes into your efforts is truly understood.

I too am out, but will be buoyed in spirit by a semi-finalist this time around. That's my best ever in a collection of many many R's so I will take it and run. But most importantly it means I finally get to live a personal fantasy and bust out this thing:

wotf057

(One day, one day, I want to fly the blue one.)

Congrats again guys! You're the best. You take risks and put yourselves out there. Be proud of what you have done.

Finalist x2
Semi x1
SHM x5
HM x9
R - lots!

Awesome, Galen! It couldn't have happened to a better red panda! Enjoy the critique from Dave. It's worth its weight in gold.

Cheers!

No one has read my Q1 sub. At the time I submitted it, I was working on a story (that you read and ultimately because my Q2 Sub) but at the time I couldn't get it to work. So, with about 48 hours remaining, I abandoned it and wrote my Q1 sub. It was a heavily interrupted 48 hrs,... Anyway, it was a decent story, but (having re-read the story a couple days ago I realize that) my first few pages were really bad. Thus, rejected. Oh well. I have absolute confidence that my Q2 story is a vast improvement. ...

Lesson learned. wotf009
