Yeah, the wait for Q1 results always makes Q2 a really hard focus for me. Dave's been posting things that suggest he's reading, though... wotf017

… checks last submission for gold pieces of eight...

I'm sure I remember Joni saying late-March this time?

They’re frequently aiming for faster results. IIRC last year Dave Farland had some real health issues during Q1, which delayed results. Here’s hoping it’s sooner!

My confirmation email from Joni for entering Q1 said this:

So... mid March is the official estimate, it seems. Smile

Yeah... they always say that though. I checked the Grinder - it's been mid-April the last two years. I wouldn't start twitching until after the Gala, personally.

Love your image, Cristy! Look at all those baby krakens! You are swarming with them! wotf001

And yes, what Becky and others have said. Author Services gets swamped by preparation from now through the gala. I honestly wonder if some of the final work for the quarter doesn't happen there. Don't expect results before, and you won't be disappointed.

Hello everyone, I have a question. I saw the results for V36 Q1 posted on May 15 on the blog. But when I checked the forum, I noticed that many contestants knew their results (such as HM or R) BEFORE the winner list was announced on the blog. I thought that only the finalists and winners would get to know their results before the quarterly results post.

V37: R, R, R, R
V38: R, R, HM, R
V39: HM, HM, HM, HM
V40: HM, X, X, X

I think the blog post is made when Joni has time. People are emailed their result before then.

Hey everyone,

I submitted my first story last December to WoTF for V37 Q1. Although I'm in the midst of writing a novel, the wait for this short story result is starting to get very exciting (and dare I say distracting? Oh, look what I found: wotf060).

It's a thrill though. Now whenever I get tired during the day, I start thinking about whether or not Mr. Farland or the judges have read my piece yet, and dream about what their reactions are like, and that wakes me right up!

Other than mentioning that, I wanted to say two things in particular:

1. Best of luck and godspeed to all the writers out there who submitted to this contest! Thank you for sharing your questions and tales, your suggestions and discoveries on this forum. Sure writing takes a little talent and a lot of practice. But as I'm sure you all know, it also takes a heck of a lot determination. It's heartwarming to see it in spades here.

2. Mr. Wulf Moon, maybe you get this a lot, but your dedication to helping out new writers on this forum is absolutely amazing. Thank you for the work and time you've put in and all the insights you provide!

Thank you, CyclopsBane! I was in the trenches with all of you for longer than I care to count. Seemed the right thing to do to stick around and share everything I learned to shave some time off the learning curve for others. The Super Secrets have been working for many, so mission accomplished, which is gratifying.

As for Q1 results, you're in for the long haul. The focus at WotF is on the workshop and gala right now, so typically, results don't get sent out until after the big event is over. The best remedy for twitching? Forget Q1 and focus on your next. I know it's hard, but once you send a story out, try to forget about it and write your next. Our growth as writers always comes with the fresh stories.

Something new will be announced at the gala this year! I just saw Joni at Superstars Writing Seminar and she said I can announce it now...I've been waiting for her to lift the gag order! It's very cool. Stay tuned!

Cheers!

I understand how you feel about the upcoming results. I’m also working on a 70,000 word novel which I plan to submit to another contest next week, but I just can’t focus wholeheartedly whenever I think of my story being judged (probably right at this moment) wotf012

I just looked at my Q1 sub...... and found a spelling mistake in the 3rd sentence.

I wouldn't worry so much, my winning piece had a word missing in the second sentence. :p There definitely are 'zines that will reject you for typos and grammar issues early on, but I don't think WotF is one of them. Dave knows that typos can be edited out easily.

Could that be announcing the date the WotF course is released? Maybe not, as that's not new. Hmmm.

As we have Illustrators of the Future...Narrators of the Future. Is WotF going audio?

Could be, with the award show being postponed, results will come sooner? Could also mean later. It's a lot of work to postpone a big event. And they have to set up the online signings and reveals. Also, the awards might actually have served as a catalyst to get Q1 wrapped up.

We'll see! Judging may happen sooner, but as Joni is the one who makes the calls and sends the emails...I'm not too sure how much sooner she'd be able to do it. They're already working on trying to reschedule for late summer/early fall, plus trying to create an online art reveal and book signings for the v36 folks. Just keep patient as always, and understand there may be delays if the situation worsens in LA.

To all you twitchers out there, stop twitching. Q1 will be delayed. I just finished talking to Kary English. The current pandemic has caused problems across the board, slowing everything down. So go back to getting your Q2 in and figure out what you will write for Q3. Best use of your mental energies.

Stay safe, all! Stay indoors if you can. It's where writers do their best work! Smile
