Seventeen years of entering. I don't twitch anymore. I just keep writing. Last week I finished my Q3, so that will be sent off in a few weeks or sooner, depends on my final rewrite time. My next project is a book length piece.

Good luck all on this Thursday before the Thursday.

Peace and Love to those who read this.

I agree, Corbin. I've only been entering WotF since last year, but my geas is to write, not to win contests.  WotF may be one of the most prestigious contests around, and it would be great to win, but it is still just a contest. Lots of good SF&F writers have gotten their start through WotF, but there are also quite a few WotF winners who've gone nowhere. I think the difference lies in how we treat our purpose.

So ... In the last two years, I've completed 16 short stories, have been submitting them all to markets, and am well over halfway through my first novel. I'm a member of two active critique groups. I can see my own writing getting better and better with every submission, and that fills me with both wonder and delight.

I wonder if the non finalists will be notified right after the finalists are called, or if they will wait until winners from the finalist pool are picked.

Historically, emails go out within 24-48hrs of first finalist calls.

Thank you so much for the update and all your efforts thus far!

I'm not going to lie, the anticipation is getting to my subconscious. Last night I dreamed that I got a phone call, and the called ID said "Joni Labaqui," and I was too excited to answer it laughing   Talk about optimistic!

Imagine answering the phone only to hear "We've been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty."

Oh, the first call from Joni is perfectly professional, but after that all bets are off. Maybe it's because we've done a lot of email exchanges over the last five years, but she absolutely messed with me on my second and third finalist notification calls. laughing

I answered at least one of her (labelled as "unknown caller") calls to tell me I was a finalist with "Hi Joni". But you know, after 6 finalists, I kind of knew what to expect.

Waiting eagerly to hear the results of this quarter! Good luck everyone!

So... I got a phone call on the way home from work yesterday.

Was asked to continue the call when I'm not commuting... but I think I'm a finalist.

I might still be processing.

@corbin-maxwell That's an awesome attitude! Keep on keeping on! Then one day, suddenly, you get this strange phone-call from a contest that you submitted to, but completely forgot about because you kept on writing and submitting......

My 2nd Call I actually hung up on Joni for precisely this reason. Phone rang around 11:30pm, I lifted the receiver and put it back down.

p.s. Congrats!

From my understanding, this is the case, and part of the reason for the secrecy, so everyone can know together and no spoilers, etc.
