HM for me!

Posted by: @bethpowers

I'm in for Q1! As usual, I submitted on the last day, but I spent more time on this story than I have on many of my recent entries, so we'll see if that makes a difference Smile

And, in answer to my past self...it did not shrug

DQ for me. I deleted my name from my manuscript, but unbeknownst to me, I had track changes enabled when I did final edits, and these were visible to the first readers (but were somehow invisible to me). I’m super bummed. Let this be a cautionary tale for everyone else!

As of this round, I have collected every single category besides Finalist and a straight rejection... here's to hoping I can round out my collection with the former, not the latter.

And I picked up an RWC for mine. Also a first!

This one was a real swing-and-a-miss--I thought it was probably a bad fit for WotF, but rolled the dice with it anyway. I guess at least my instincts were on the money?

First time getting past regular HM! Also first time re-subbing a story, I personally really enjoyed this one and felt it deserved another chance. (It got RWC before.) Thanks to the help of forumites I realized what was wrong with the opening scene. Re-writing it made all the difference. Congratulations to the winners and everyone else for submitting!

Q1 was my first submission (ever) and I recieved what looks like the standard email from Joni listing nine common reasons a story doesn't make it through. Is this a Rejection (R) or a Rejection with Corrections (RWC)? Please forgive my ignorance, I am new. I am slowly learning the acronyms, but then I realize some of them have a bit more context than I thought. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a RWC which is encouraging. See @TGio's comment above. It could be something as simple as starting your story in a different place. Keep your chin up and keep writing!

Sorry to hear that.

Same with me, RWC. Mine was a bit dark, but I still felt it could fit. Guess I was wrong.

Disappointed at a full R this time. I had higher hopes. This story went through a professional edit and I made significant changes as a result—and it didn't even get the RWC comments. Sigh. Keep trying. I've got another for Q2 almost ready to go in. High hopes again, but now I just don't know.

That's tough, Doc. I think it just means your very polished and awesome story was meant to be published in a different market. I'm sure it's a great story! Don't give up on it, send it somewhere else. Hugs.
