@doctorjest I would like to find the spot on this site where it tells me my submissions. I know I submitted in Q2 and received a confirmation email, but it would be nice to find that page to keep a record of my submissions. Can you direct me to it?

It's actually the same place where you would enter. Just click the Enter Writer Contest link on the left, or go here:

Writer Contest – Writers & Illustrators of the Future (writersofthefuture.com)

Then click the button "Click Here to Enter Writer Contest". In there, it'll show you a list of your current submitted entries.

In for Q2, but with easily my weakest submission so far. It's off with a bit of a futile feeling.

I understand that frustration, but you still got it in--and everything you write teaches you things for future stories. (Also, we're sometimes our own worst critics! I've had a story I thought wasn't particularly good sell on its first submission, because the fact that I struggled to write it did not mean that the story was bad. I've also had what I feel are very good stories that still haven't found their market after 15 to 20 submissions--and that doesn't mean those are bad either, just that they haven't yet found the right home.)

If you are in difficulties with a book, try the element of surprise: attack it at an hour when it isn't expecting it. ~ H.G. Wells
If a person offend you, and you are in doubt as to whether it was intentional or not, do not resort to extreme measures; simply watch your chance and hit him with a brick. ~ Mark Twain

Are we expecting quarterly results in May?

Historically, Q2 results come out in June or July. I have 6/26, 7/22, 7/14, and 6/25.

Re: Results for Q2

Between COVID and getting our new Coordinating Judge up to speed, we're behind. I'll be starting on Q2 next week, and the earliest Jody can start is June 1. My guess is sometime in July. We'll be trying to make up some of the ground we lost in Q1, so hopefully earlier in July rather than later.

Cheers,

Kary

Hello, I’m new here (as in this quarter is the very first time I’ve been involved with WOTF, let alone entered a story). Happy to be here learning from everyone.

Question: When they say they’ll announce placement in July, does that mean just the public announcement? And if so, when are finalists and SF contacted? I’d heard somewhere they get contacted before the public announcement….

@jmabey they get announced on Thursday. ?

I'm pretty certain that for my SF I was notified along with all the other SHMs, HM, and Rs. As I've never been a finalist nor have I played one on TV, I can not attest to those.

@jmabey The thing about Thursday and results is that the results are always released on a Thursday, no matter what day they are actually released. Welcome to the forum.

As in EVERY day could be, and is, Thursday. Today? Thursday. Tomorrow? Thursday.

When will results come out? Who knows. But we know this - when they do, it will be Thursday.

Hope that helps.

I am reasonably confident that the origins of the Thursday fixation were lost in the server move. And if somehow they weren’t, I’ll claim that the statute of limitations has elapsed!

Thank you for all your responses to my query. It’s good to know this is a forum where people actually pay attention to comments ?.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to ponder the universal and possibly life changing applications of Thursdays.

Today, as I sit pondering this, I think of how some folks here write scripts or screenplays, for their first drafts, and how I still hold the original radio play up as the best version of THGTTG (though with an honorable mention to the text adventure for driving my friends and I mad).

I may have to give this screenplay thing a whirl myself.

Behind him, in the shadowy corner of his writing space, a dark form rose from the floor to engulf that end of the room. Sensing it, Arthur spun around with heart pounding. It was ... Thursday incarnate.

Thursday’s icy fingers slid onto, and gripped Arthur’s shoulders with the strength of an iron vice as cold lips touched his left ear. Arthur tried desperately to scream but only a wet gurgle escaped his throat. To Arthur’s right stood a pillow fort. Not a great defense but there was comfort there. And hot chocolate. Others, like Arthur, were already there, trembling.

It was only a few steps. A mad dash really. He could make it.

But Thursday’s sharp teeth were already taking a bit from his ear. A bite that froze poor Arthur to his seat. There was no escape.

Except . . . to write about it.

For Thursday, Arthur knew, had no power over the pen.

Arthur drew his sword and raised it over his head. "You're not the boss of me," he yelled, and slashed Thursday across the face. Thursday slithered back into the corner, covering its head with its arms and screaming as Arthur hacked away. Finally, like toilet water swirling down the drain, Thursday disappeared into the floorboards, back into its shadowy depths.

Arthur sheathed his sword, drew his magical word-wizard pen, and sat at his desk. The mythical Chupa-Thursday-Cabra was dead. It was time to get back to work.

There stood Friday, seething at the possibility that the humans Thursday fixation might be passed along to the next day. Never in a million years, not today, not tomorrow. NEVER! Calling for payment on a debt from the distant past, Friday reset the results to Thursday. And the thread continued.
