@knyghtstyk congrats on entering! First competition - its a big milestone. Keep going. I also got rejected with my first submission to this competition. I've had 4 rejections this week! but not everything ends up a rejection as long as you...just...keeep...going 😉

Thank you for the encouragement! I’m truly in awe of how accepting, supportive, and positive this forum community has been! It’s incredibly inspiring to someone new to sharing their work on a competitive level, albeit a friendly competition as far as I can tell.

I’m trying to decide if I want to rework a story that’s only a touch speculative (set in the very near future) or write a completely new story for my Q4 entry. I’m excited to see what I decide!

@knyghtstyk Be proud you mustered the courage to enter. I'm in my 50's (did I say that out loud? augh) and I just started entering several years ago.

Thank you! I am quite proud of myself for having the courage to enter a story in the WotF competition! It’s a huge step forward into the unknown!

p.s. I’m 52 years old according to my birth certificate but my mind is still in its 30s while my body is in its late 60s!!

This was my first time submitting and I poured my soul into that short story.
I didn’t know how it all worked or how we would be alerted so starting at the beginning of the month I started checking the blog multiple times a day, pretty much when ever I thought about it, which was all day long, hoping my name would be on there somewhere. Anywhere.
I got an email on the 9th saying that I got semi-finalist. But I feel like I need to see it on the blog before I believe it. So here I am, still checking the blog multiple times a day…

(I didn’t submit for 3rd quarter - my writing time is a bit limited. But man that wait is crazy. I hope to have something for the quarter after.)

HM this quarter. Another fresh story for Q3 submitted, and already working on my story for Q4, but I think it’s going to be too long (I have a real issue with my stories being too long lately), so may need to find another idea for a shorter story in the next few weeks.

Well done everyone, regardless of the outcome, submitting is a win in itself, every short story we write leads to progress. Onward and upward 😁

Wow, first time and you hit semifinalist? That's special and is a great sign! I know life gets busy, but may I suggest that you enter something, anything (preferably a fresh story), every quarter from now on? That's how most of us found our winner, making that commitment.

@bon I learned about WotF at FanX (comic con in Utah). They had a panel with a bunch of info and afterwards I went up and asked one of the judges what the average word count of a winning story. She said most winners are 7k-8k words. Thought it was interesting!

Second call came in today. No win, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around placing so high. Hopefully I'll have enough inspiration to get me into Q4!
