LOL, I was wondering how long it would take for someone to start thinking about Q2. Afterall, Dave did say he started on the Q2s this past Saturday.

I think we're a couple of months away from Q2. Even if he's a fast slush reader, and even if it's only one-thousand entries, it'll still take him almost two months. I'm not going to worry about Q2 until August.

Thomas, as the first poster on page 100 of the Q1-29 thread, you are entitled to a virtual pony! (With optional sparkle upgrade!)

...

I think you're probably right, though, on the timing for Q2.

That'd be a nice birthday present...

And since we're all about goals, why not shoot for 3000 posts in this thread before an official announcement for Q1? wotf007

Hey! I want a pony too! (NOT the sparkly kind!)

Well, I want a unicorn. Smile
But I'm out of the picture anyway so it doesn't apply to me. Oh well...

BTW: I have read an anthology full of stories about a Mountain man who rode an unicorn in the old West. So guys can have them.

Someone else can have the prize for pushing the thread to 100, but I want the prize for first Q1 story to go live anywhere.

Dang, Amazon is fast.

The blurb has already been tweaked, just waiting for the changes to catch up.

Welcome to Holly and Mr. Brink. And congratulations! wotf006

I do like the sound of Mr Brink too, living under a rock. You don't happen to be a reptile do you? Snake maybe? wotf007 There's not nearly enough reptiles on this forum.

Thanks for the "welcome" all. And no, I think I'm too hairy to be a reptile. Maybe "in a cave" would be a better phrase for me than "under a rock". That about sums up my tech savvy.

As for the long vs short work, I tend to think in longer works too. They don't always start out that way. In fact, they usually start out as a "short story idea" and the more I think about them the longer they get. My currently passed around with no luck fantasy novel started out as a short story idea like literally 10 years ago and when I finished the draft last year it was 123,000 words. Ten years is way too long to let something grow. Maybe if I could get my butt in the chair more I could catch these things while they're small.

Congrats to everyone on present and past success and looking forward to pushing this topic string well past the 100 mark.

Jeremy (which is easier than TUEMoBCT or whatever)

Very pretty, indeed. I wish I wasn't pathetically bad at covers

wotf014

I agree

With both statements.

Even though I'm changing it to me instead of Rebecca Smile

But have I read the opening for the story somewhere--the one that was posted a while back? It sounds like I should know it.

No results.

Man, was I hoping for results.
Put me out of my misery.

In other news, we had a high of 68 degrees yesterday and I opened a window to let in the cool air.
Right now, we're at a crisp 57f.

They're not unicorns, they're battlehorses!

(Battlehorses is the name my nine-year-old son gave unicorns, go figure).

It sure is quiet today. Is everyone still passed out from the massive posting frenzy from last night? And then, there are the unnamed Finalists, (and the folks holding out to post their milestone posts) who are quiet because we still don't have results!

It's kind of funny... I don't even have an entry in Q1, and I still find myself watching this thread. wotf001 Either the excitement (or anxiety, depending on how you look at it) is contagious, or subconsciously I'm thinking that Q1 results will mean it's one step closer to Q2 Smile
Good luck to those still hoping for good news from Q1! (or, at the least, that the waiting isn't causing gastrointestinal distress) wotf035

That's where I'm at! I don't have a dog in the Q1 fight, but we have to get through Q1 first so we can get to Q2!

Judging from Dave Wolverton's post (that Brad helpfully just shared) it sounds as though he's already started judging Q2 stories.

So...let me get this right. Farland, as coordinating judge is First Reader...and after that it is in the Judges' hands, correct? Does he get to override Judges' choices? He doesn't, does he?

Nope, he does not. And the judges are rotating. Not every WotF judge will read every story. A handful will read the 8 Finalists and then rank them. The three with the highest cumulative ranks become the three winners for the quarter.
