@wulfmoon

I've just caught up on the blogs this morning. There were some seriously good tips on Day 3. It sounds like an incredible event, even more so considering it is FREE to enter! My word, I hope one day I can be there to enjoy it in person.

Thank you, Joel. I thought it more helpful to do something different. Instead of covering only their activities, I added what they’re learning. I’m doing this for writers like you that haven’t gotten there yet. I trust it will help, and I’m so glad to hear you benefited, and took the time to tell me. It’s a lot of extra work, but worth it for ones like you! Cheers!

Just read the Day 4 blog. Yet more brilliant tips shared by @wulfmoon. Thank you!

Also, I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall for the "Big Reveal" moment. What a feeling it must be to have commissioned art work for your story. Wow. Very cool.

Thank you, Joel! Doing my best to get you guys the juicy tips. Takes extra time--I worked on the last until 9 p.m.--but I do want you to feel like a fly on the wall, not missing a thing.

There is a way for aspiring writers to get an original illustration for their story outside of WotF. Submit to DreamForge Anvil. Saying you are a new or unpublished writer actually helps there! One of our Top Gunners just got published there. I hope you're reading each issue of DFA!

May the Force be with you.

The blog is fantastic, Moon. As others have said, I definitely appreciate the discussion around agents (and parties-woo hoo!). The stack of pictures at the end have been a fantastic link to the week. I loved seeing the photos of the authors as they got their first look at the illustration that would accompany their story. Look forward to tomorrow's blog!

Okay, trying to get back in the KYD saddle for October and keep up with Moon's v39 challenge. Here's one based on the prompt Dead Drop. Also trying gender-neutral pronouns on this one. Feedback welcome--would love to know how this one comes across.

Copy

Through the capsule’s viewport, Avon watched the stalled missile’s black nose cone spin through the debris field over the lunar surface, vista rotating from pitch black velvet and diamonds to pocked gray ash. Ze grasped the welder controls and opened the missile’s guidance system panel.

“Avon,” Stylos called through the com. “Avon, you read?”

“I read.”

A relieved sigh filtered through the com. Avon’s head still pounded after the g-force of launch and the near-crash landing on the missile’s casing.

“The EMP blast radius is still spreading. Work fast and get the hell back here.”

“Copy.”

Ze sent a small charge through the guidance control’s powerpack and watched the circuits blink gold, then spot welded it closed. A rush job, but it would blow Earth’s navisystem to Jupiter and give them a fighting chance to escape. With no navisystem, the government goons couldn’t track the ship. Its state-of-the-art tech and precious cargo of the brightest minds left was humanity’s last chance to make it to a new world.

A red alert message flashed above zir control holo.

“The guidance system’s fried. I’ll have to take it in manually.”

“Get back here now! We can still outrun--”

“Don’t let Molly-girl forget me growing up. Love her double for me.”

The sound of anguished weeping echoed through the com. A single tear rolled off Avon’s lashes to form a perfect sphere, floating between zir nose bridge and visor as the missile’s rocket came online.

“Stylos, you copy?”

A ragged breath.

“Copy.”

@wulfmoon I accept this Vol 39 challenge! I really need to light a fire under my creative backside and get writing. The challenge is a daunting one, but I'm going to give it my best shot. Even if I complete one of the challenges on this list, I will consider it a great creative victory. Thank, Moon, for giving me the courage and confidence to take up the challenge and write!

Can someone clarify to me about the wristbands mentioned in the photos of the Day 1 blog? Is this some sort of "how vulnerable are you to COVID" code? I love this idea and would like to implement at other events.

Hi, Liz!

It's a code as to how you wish others to treat you. Red bands mean keep your distance. Yellow bands mean you can come up and talk to me, but no fist bumps. Green means happy to have you come up and talk, and fist bumps, elbow bumps, are okay. I still ask if they'd like a hug.
