The fog of war  

Here's Wikipedia on the term to spark your ideas:

The fog of war is the uncertainty in situational awareness experienced by participants in military operations.^[1] The term seeks to capture the uncertainty regarding one's own capability, adversary capability, and adversary intent during an engagement, operation, or campaign. Military forces try to reduce the fog of war through military intelligence and friendly force tracking systems.

The term has become commonly used to define uncertainty mechanics in wargames.

 It's Monday, and that means it's time for your KYD "Kill Your Darlings" writing prompt!

But today is also a special day. You see, every year on September 15th, I accept enrollment in the Wulf Pack Writers Workshop and Challenge for two weeks before the new WotF Contest year begins. This is Year 8 since I founded this workshop right here in the WotF Forum under this heading to help emerging writers. Alas, I no longer teach this workshop and do edits for the members for free like I did for years here--I love helping writers, but the workshop kept growing and it consumed a great deal of my time. Now, it's behind a paywall in the Wulf Pack Writers tier in my Wulf Moon Patreon. Just letting you know the show goes on, and the annual workshop enrollment is going on right now, but in another venue. Writing winning stories--like stories that DO win Writers of the Future--is a significant aspect of my writing workshop. There is no better win that has the power to launch an aspiring speculative fiction writer's career than a win in Writers of the Future. Period.

That does not mean I've forgotten all of you here. I continue to share Super Secrets of Writing articles to help you along. Leaving your identity on for first readers to see will get you an immediate rejection. Don't be that guy! You know, the guy that loves donuts and slaps his forehead and says, "D'oh!"
