Scott Andrews, editor for Beneath Ceaseless Skies, is doing a class in January titled Emotional Truth. I am going to apply to get in (fingers crossed), but was wondering if anyone here has any experience with Odyssey or their classes?

Not really but I've had a lot of good feedback from BCS. They're one of the few places who take time to do that.

I've listened to Odyssey podcasts, which I think tend to be excerpts from their lectures. Based on the excerpts, I would like to do a course, but I find it strange they have an application fee, and the times don't work for me in the UK (they may expel you from the course if you miss more than one lecture without good reason, despite the lectures being recorded). There might be good reasons for the fees and so on, but I haven't looked into it.

Here's an excerpt from Scott on emotional truth: https://player.fm/series/series-1412002/scott-h-andrews-on-making-character-emotions-real-powerful-and-immediate-to-readers

@alexh Thanks for sharing that, it gives me a good idea as to his lecture format. The application, including two references familiar with your writing, is a bit intimidating for me, nevermind the strict structure and carving out five hours a week for homework and peer critique. But, if it elevates my prose and pushes me out of my comfortable writing zone, it will be worth it.

I'm sorry that it isn't flexible enough to accommodate people in broader time zones. It's really a loss for them.

@pdblake agree completely! They give the best rejections (if there is such a thing) and critiques and is one of the major reasons I am interested in this class.
