Hey all! Yesterday I was invited to talk to a Brazilian Writers Group about flash fiction and Apex Magazine. I did a miniature version of the flash fiction class I teach through Apex, and thought some here might find that interesting. It's free to watch on youtube here: https://youtu.be/kLh_k8_RmIQ?si=22Ny4IQ-WM8-4KJG

Thanks, Rebecca! As I'm currently doing flash and micro fiction for Inktober this month ( I don't draw, so this is how I contribute), this was perfect!

I'm not writing flash at the moment, I'm trying to shift into a novel-writing gear (damn clutch keeps slipping), but I'm going to watch it anyway.

This really is a great and succinct talk, and really nails down some points that I think a lot of writers (myself included) would do well to consider when thinking about their stories. I have a very slap-dash approach to my writing, so some of the approaches described here (such as over-writing and then editing down) feel like they'd work very well for me, while others I think would help me get out of the weeds that I do sometimes get a little lost in. And the more Apex-specific details generalize really nicely in concept, too.
I really enjoyed this--thanks for sharing!

@doctorjest Glad you enjoyed it! I think a slap-dash approach can work well, but it helps to internalize a lot of these concepts so we can apply them as we write.
