The 1998 Writers and Illustrators of the Future workshops were held in Hollywood, California, in the lavish library setting of Author Services Inc., on Hollywood Boulevard. Students also received a tour of Paramount Studios, the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine set and the recording studio for the show’s musical score.
The fourteenth annual Awards ceremony was held on Saturday, October 3, 1998 at the L. Ron Hubbard Gallery at Author Services. During the ceremony, actress and stuntwoman Patricia Tallman (Babylon 5, Army of Darkness, Night of the Living Dead ) and actor/producer Jeffrey Willerth presented awards and helped prepare a new set of time capsules.
As a special highlight of the event, Jack Williamson received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Arts for his many decades of producing science fiction stories, then all attendees helped Jack celebrate his ninetieth birthday with a special cake.
