Good job on Q3. SHM is a great achievement. I hope the story updates go over well with judges.

Great job, you're going to do awesome!
Although I don't know what this weird thing you're doing is, where you don't submit your story 1 hour before the deadline. Seems like a mistake to me, bad luck and all that.
@m-norris ? ? ? Just trying a new tactic! I've had my share of last hour submissions! I still have to finish my illustrators submission so maybe I'll un-jinx myself with that one...

@clfors hooray! Your story is awesome! I’m waiting to hear back from one writing group and one more round of beta readers, but at some point I have to stop tinkering and just submit.
I second letting a story rest. The one I’m entering this time has been kicking around since last year with one major re-write and like 10 revision rounds. This is the story I’ve worked the hardest on to date, so fingers crossed.
Good luck everyone!

Got a really cool idea the other day. I’d like to explore that as well.
Nice, always good to at least sketch out the idea for now or a later date.
I've started jotting down 1-5 paragraphs of story ideas and filing them. I can keep focused on current tale, but not lose the idea. Seems to quiet my mind from thinking about the new story all the time.

This is what I do.
Idea inception: add it to the "ideas document"
Idea keeps nagging: give it a blank standard manuscript and rapid fire some notes. No more than ~5 paragraphs
I like this method because it lets me stay focused on the current project AND means I never have to start from a blank page (and man, nothing gives me writer's block like a blank page).

I like this a lot. I "suffer" with lots of ideas, though I think my real issue is letting those ideas take root and distract me / encourage me to procrastinate from writing the current story. I'll adopt this method going forward

I do similar, so have a batch of ideas ready to go.
My bigger problem is on the other end. Letting a story go. Sometimes I have even submitted it somewhere and I will have a sudden idea of how to tweak it and its a struggle not to go back and re-read it to see if the tweak would work.
For THAT problem I have now created a tweak list. consists of storyname - 1 line description of potential tweak.
I check this file when a rejection comes in but it helps prevent me messing or editing anything until I know its not already placed somewhere.
Please nobody cite me for a violation of Heinlein's rules!

@gideonpsmith This is another useful tip, and could save time in re-reading and reviewing. Though, I fear getting trapped in a cycle of making documents with ideas for stories and ways to improve existing stories (thus reviewing already rejected ones) which gets in the way of me writing new ones

@craydimensional Me too. I'm still debating a resubmit or another story I never submitted, but may be on the edge of WotF audience. Will do some editing this weekend and see how the newer story goes.

My Q3 is around half-written and doesn't feel particularly good, but then I often fee like that before I finish. (And on and off after I've finished.)
?
@time Just keep writing. I get depressed with my stories too. Focus on heart's desire right up front, don't forget about setting the stage with a brief description of setting, and add some sensory cues.
