Still working on my story. I can't seem get the ending right. Augh.

Well, I'm in for Q3. I have a good feeling about this one but that's the way of it most quarters. But this is an extra good feeling, lol. Now to forget about it for a few months.

I keep moving my "good feeling" measuring stick. Usually, right after the results come out for WotF and my hopes sink. My Q2 is my best "good feeling" so far. 

That must mean I'm becoming a better writer?

Brought scones and coffee over to twitching  table for those last minute stragglers finishing up qtr 3 stories.

Been editing all week, finally figured out a proper ending line yesterday. Now still polishing and proofreading and polishing. Almost there!

So kind of you. Haven't had time to surface, but it's in now!

I'll pass on the coffee (It's vile nasty black stuff, gets in your mouth and everything.), but now that I'm done, I'll grab five or six scones for nervous energy. Wash them down with some southern sweet tea. Float off to a friend's birthday party on a sugar high.

Onto new ideas...

Well, I entered about an hour ago.  I can't say I'm happy with this entry, but I didn't have time to start from scratch... again.

This was one of those stories that was excellent in theory, then got bogged down as I worked through it.  If I could start again, I'd tweak the premises enough that it wouldn't have turned into a nearly 17,000-word monstrosity that still manages to miss the mark.  It needs heavily reworked, and if I resubmit it in the future, it'll look quite different.

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to slap together another story at the end of this quarter like I did last quarter.  That story turned out fairly decent, I think.  A winner?  I don't know, but far better than this one to my mind.

Basically, what happened was this, for anyone who's prone to getting bogged down by life crisis and writer's block:

• Had an interesting world and idea for a story, but as I worked through it, I realized it lacked an emotional impact and would need reworked.
• Decided to shelve it and return to the story I originally had in mind for last quarter, but realized it was going to need major rewrites to get it under 17,000 words thanks to massive worlbuilding and too many characters with way too much intrigue and backstory.
• My cat went missing, and life has been put on hold ever since as I frantically try to get her home.  Nothing else matters now.
• Got an email saying there was still time to submit.  I hadn't planned on it since my cat decided to fall through a window screen and get lost, but I remembered I had this story.  It was done, but needing a third draft in the worst way, and I'd begun to decide it needed totally reworked.  Unfortunately, there was no time, so I submitted it as is.

I can say I submitted, but I'm not hopeful for this quarter.  I'm glad I did it, though.  I promised myself I would, and I managed to do it.

I'm in for Q3--I submitted before midnight, so that I could enjoy the novelty of not submitting on the last day  

@shounenbat I've struggled with emotional impact before now and probably will again. Such an important factor but not always easy to fit in.

It's a big step to write a story, bigger step to finish, and even longer step to submit.

You'll always miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Congrats, Dannie! That's a big deal, just to get one submitted. Think how many wannabe writers are out there who've never even gotten far enough to finish a story, much less submit it!

My wife, knowing I've been procrastinating on writing (yes this is my fault - haha), had us go to friends last night for dinner and a movie after I got done with yard work. I planned on writing last night, but noooo. Today, she has friends coming over for a day at the lake. Augh.

Of course, this is all my fault for waiting too long to write.

Double augh.

@toddjones I hear you on the family activities. You got this.

It's been several years since the last time I submitted, but I'm in for this quarter.

@craydimensional Thought I had a chance of finishing today, but I guess my wife decided I needed to weed whack, edge, and cut the grass before people came over.

This is a battle husbands know not to fight.  I guess there is always next quarter.

Although, I did think about adding an "11" to my guitar amp to be used during my wife's next work conference call. Then the husband filter kicked in and I locked that thought away. 

@toddjones Maybe you can find a previous piece you have on shelf?

I did get her to kick her friends out just now.  So ... either new story where I don't like the ending or a previous R story, which I have no idea why it was an R.  Seemed like a SHM to me.  But I'm not a slush pile reader so what do I know.

OK, in for Q3. I hadn't written in a long while, so this story was a good 'get back on that horse' submission for me.
